It's Not an XML Feed!

Please stop calling an RSS feed an XML feed. XML refers to the document type, while RSS is a subset of XML. RSS is XML, but XML is not RSS. The orange “XML” buttons that you see everywhere on the Web make sense, so long as you understand the relationship between RSS and XML. However, most people don't – and they wind up calling their RSS feed an XML feed. Why? Because I don't think anybody has bothered to explain it yet. Again, it's not an XML feed if you're talking about RSS. Yes, it's an XML document, but it's an RSS feed. Now you know.
And knowing is half the battle.

dumbass…

Let me disagree. It's an XML feed, but more specifically an RSS feed, but it's still an XML feed. I think it would be less confusing if we changed all those XML chicklets into RSS chicklets. Thoughts? I see you've already done it, maybe I'll do the same.

I'll have to agree with Chris.
RSS is RSS, which so happens to be an XML script, but XML is not a feed.
If you say XML it's a broad gemeralization, but if you say RSS you know exactly what we're talking about.
I realze this is debatable and this is just my view and not meant to be taken as the be all and end all on this matter =)
In any case I really love RSS Feeds!

SGML > XML > RSS. XML is a document type? Or a specification? RSS is a subset of XML, but not XML? Is that like saying african americans are a subset of americans, but not americans? So many questions… so little reason to ask them.

I'd actually have to vote for “XML feed” as a compromise between RSS and Atom — that way, you don't have to remember which one the site you're on is actually feeding.

Do you get this dweebed out when someone asks for a kleenex or an aspirin?
