It Never Ends

I'll give Mozilla props and grant that it levels the playing field a little better. Netscape is owned by AOL, and what makes me laugh about anti-IE people is that they act like Netscape is the underdog. That's not true at all. If AOL follows through on their decision to make Mozilla their default browser, is that any worse than Microsoft bundling IE? If anything, AOL's internet software is an OS unto itself, so should AOL be including Windows Messenger and Internet Explorer as well? And while plenty of computer literate people use Windows, how many truly computer literate people use AOL? Moreover, AOL isn't Red Hat or some little 10 man linux company. AOL-Time Warner is only about half the size of MS in terms of capital, and about twice the size of MS in terms of employees. [John Beeler]

Yes, but Microsoft are assholes, the vast majority of the world were using their operating system. If you bundle something with an operating system that 9x% of the world uses then that kills anybody offering alternatives to that bundled software. Nobody is forced to use AOL, AOL is not used by the vast majority of Windows users. There's a big difference. If you choose to use AOL then you get Mozilla. Big deal! However, bundling IM clients and crap with the Netscape browser sucks. But I think that a hell of a lot of people are pissed off enough with Microsoft not to give a damn anymore. Maybe now they'll have to get off their backsides and start doing the work they charged us for but never delivered these past few years…
