ISO PowerToy Programmers

Here are a few utilities that I really, really, really need: (1) Font thumbnails directly in an Explorer Window or tooltip; (2) Image thumbnails on the desktop or tooltip; (3) A desktop newsticker app that reads RSS feeds; (4) A “Recently Used Programs” menu for people like me who use the Classic Start Menu; (5) A Watson for Windows; (6) A desktop television program guide with smart reminders (since Digiguide no longer supports the US market). Any takers? C'mon, here's a chance to show off your mad skillz - and I'll even help you market the damn thing(s).

These may work…
1. You could use Extensis Suitcase, it wouldn't be in explorer, but it shows an example of the font.
2. Adobe Photoshop shows a small version of the file as it's icon, it's smaller, but still does it.
3. There is a Source Forge project to create a RDF/RSS News Ticker located at http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32-infobar
4. Doesn't Windows XP do that automatically in the start menu. I also use the classic interface…it show the most used ones.
5. Nothing I've Heard of YET!
6. I wish I knew…

I too have looked long and hard for a desktop television program guide with smart reminders. I will continue my search and keep you updated Chris.
If you find it before I do, hook me up. ;-)

Hey Will, tried the RSS ticker you posted above…but they have some serious bugs to work out it would appear. Just FYI.

Oh, I didn't actually test the app before I posted here. Whoops.

Good find though, just give it time. I will try to keep an eye out for a solution.

I absoulutly hate the WinXP start menu I use classic as well.

Chis, I think I have a winner on the TV guide program. I need to do further testing and see what all is available…but I think I have a solution for ya! ;-)

Macromedia is coming out with a Watson Clone called Central. Check it out at http://www.macromedia.com/software/central/

Chris, don't forget to add thumbnail list for email recipients while your making a wish list.
1. It must be available in all apps & explorer windows, INCLUDING the start menu
AND
2. must have the option to sort by most recently emailed & most frequently emailed, over variable time periods.
the fact that the obvious is always late being actualized should give hope to dreamers everywhere.
you can't outdream me, but you're welcome to try.

Chris. There was a cool utility called ButtonBoogie released by PCMag that would allow you to reorganize the order of the items in your taskbar. It worked on 9x and Win2k but not on XP. Do you know of anything else that might do the same thing?
Thanks…

Ati has a good program for there All in wonder cards. I have never uesed it because i only have one with vivo(not tivo). But it only works with there cards.
Hey! I have a shitload of pictures from Iraq on my website!

There's a great utility that will give you all of that functionality and more.
It's called OS X.

For a desktop RSS ticker, CoolMon (coolmon.arsware.org) has a module that reads RSS feeds which you can display on the desktop. So, you can display as many feeds on your desktop as you have room for. Another way to do it is use a coolmon scroller module. Point the RSS feeds to the scroller and it will scroll through the feeds.

You can try KlipFolio I think that it has a module to read RDF/RSS

As for recently used programs, you could use RdocEx that shows your recently used apps in the Recent Documents menu. http://mlin.net/misc.shtml

Try asking the LazyWeb : so far my own requests there have perhaps been about 50% fulfilled by existing apps - some of them very obscure or specific requirements.

Try http://www.BaxBex.com for the image thumbnail problem. They have a program claled Shell Picture that will put one in the context menu for you. And not just images but a couple dozen formats, I believe. Shareware, so you can try it out and see if it does it for you
