I thought I'd be creative with this blogroll and randomly link to other blogs which were discussing Apple's BIG announcement today. There is no direct coorelation between any URL (living or dead) and its hyperlink. Holy shit, I just noticed that I'm in Dave Winer's blogroll. Ahem. I better make this good. This is a response to anybody who thinks that the new iMac is going to change the world. Yeah, and Windows XP is going to pull the entire industry out of a recession.

Innovative? Oh, for sure. I haven't seen an all-in-one computer system for at least two
YEARS. Gateway didn't “innovate” their Profile enough, apparently. Apple
innovation my ass. As an expensive snack tray, the new iMac is impressive.
As a modern marvel of personal computing, it's not. “Let's all pretend that
Steve Jobs invents everything.” No, he and his award-winning design team simply reinvent the wheel - and make it look hella better in the process.

I'm paraphrasing, but I remember hearing Steve say something along the lines of: “And,
you can download it today… for free.” What my brain heard: “And, we're not
going to gouge the consumer like we've done before. At least, this time.” Before I start an OS holy war, I'm just as critical with Microsoft's
tactics. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I still believe that they released
Windows ME just because they knew it was a PoS and that users would upgrade to Windows XP as
soon as it was released.

I agree Chris, the All-In-One idea isn't new at all (In fact, my mother uses one of those IBM Netvistas). I am impressed by the new iMac as well, but it does not live up the hype Apple was creating. That's the usual story for Apple though.
What I would like to see, and I think would be truly revolutionary would be OS X for Intel-based PC systems. Personally, I would much prefer running OS X than XP. Not just because it is “pretty,” but because of the BSD/Unix foundation.

Chris My blog will soon be blog rolling material! :)
