Is Your Wife a Hot Geek?
In reading ‘How to Turn a Hot Chick into a Geek,’ I realized that it’s an impossible task. Either the female was borne with a geek gene, or she’ll fight those natural geeky tendencies because of the pressures laden upon her by society.
My wife, Ponzi, is not a geek – she doesn’t want to be a geek, and no matter how many items I try to cross off my “how to get her to be a geek” list, she won’t budge. You can’t force a femme fatale to do anything. Some of my friends have had better luck:
But Chris, my hot chick is already a geek. I'm sure you can sympathize. – Spinn
Yeah – mine is too! :D Some of us are just lucky. – Tad Donaghe
I feel gifted. My gf is not only a hot chick, but an anime-loving, Japanese/Mandarin/Cantonese/Taiwanese-speaking, videogame playing (to the point of being more agressive in tactical games than I am) geek girl. It has its moments. – Alexander Williams via NoiseRiver
I can proudly say that my GF is so geeky, she is considered more manly then the guys in our office :-) – Alexander Kucera
My girlfriend can explain Microformats! :-P – Pat Hawks
Oh Hell, I think we're having a dicksize war over girlfriends. I almost think I need to Godwin myself … – Alexander Williams via NoiseRiver
the wifey is a Linux hacker, super coder/math geek… sob :) yes I know how it feels – Dave Q
I can’t get Ponzi to laugh at my Monty Python references, sit down and watch one of the original Star Wars movies, or readily admit that Captain Picard was *WAY* more awesome than Captain Kirk. All things considered, I’m happy to have a hot chick for a wife – geek or not.

I was just readingChris Pirillo’s post[nw] where he was talking about how he just can’t seem to geekify his wife. I can’t get Ponzi to laugh at my Monty Python references, sit down and watch one of the original Star Wars movies, or readily admit that Captain Picard was *WAY* more

My wife is hot… but the geek part is a matter of perspective. she’s not into social media at all… doesn’t understand things like facebook, has trouble checking her email… that kind of stuff. but she loves sci-fi movies, x-files, lord of the rings, and vampires… does that = geek or maybe something else?

My fiance’ is an uber hot geekette!
Right now she is in Riga, Latvia.
At one point she was managing Four sretail stores of Multi-Systema Riga, a computer building firm, plus she is the highest HP Certified Tech in her field there.
The owners sold Multi-Systema Riga and now she is managing a new startup doing basically the same things, building PC’s, software, accessories, etc.

My wife, a geek? Uh ya. Our small internet company is named after one of our kids. Our other one is named after a Star Trek character, and so he didn’t feel totally left out of the web thing, his initials are “www”. Can she tear down and build up a computer? Maybe. Can she write in Binary code? Nope. But she can post a blog (actually many), or cause Twitter to crash (but really, who can’t). She is the only person I know who can max out the 127 USB device limit.
Oh, but the other part, is she hot? SMOKIN’!!! In fact some kids hanging out one morning, in Starbucks referred to her as “H-A-W-T” (pronounced HOT). Haven’t heard that one before, but I’ll take it.

Funny damn article. I’ve tried for years to try to get my wife to relate to my world, but she has resisted at every turn. Games and most sci-fi movies make her motionsick, she shakes her head when I reference most movies and has no idea why I have a Linux box in the basement.
Only last month, after 9 years of marriage, has she very carefully dipped her toe into the stream… I was able to get her to start a blog, then podcast for her food allergy, Celiac Disease. I’m proud of her, and she’s doing great!

Well as a straight female, I have no GF in the sense you mean, and though 30 to 45 years ago I was said to be very hot, I have gone way beyond that now. However, I am the MAC tech at work and I will occasionally fix a PC for a close friend. My son’s GGF (goddess girlfriend) is very geeky, writes code, makes digital effects software and uses it in film industry . We trade info and geekman bashing jokes all the time.
So, in case some of you manly men missed it, we’re laughing at you.

guy’s – I’m an ex model and now develop web2 for mental health recovery. I paint graphic novellettes on canvas. But I’m single. What’s the deal with that?! Where’s a geek when you need one?

My wife was into computers very early into the era–even before PC’s. Later she did programming and web design.
As I write, she’s on her pc editing photos.
I’m not sure you’d call her “hot” but she definitely a geek.

Here’s what ya do. This is similar to “the door test” from A Bronx Tale. Put an Apple under 20 mattresses and have her sleep there for the night. If she wakes up in the morning and doesn’t complain about a lump in the mattresses, “dump her”.

People say I’m lucky because not only am I a female geek, but I found and married one as well.
People can’t believe it when they see not one but two female geeks together looking at the newest games. Hell, you should have seen the look at the Best Buy guy when he saw that the two of us were first in line for the Metal Gear Solid PS3 bundle not long ago. It was the funniest thing.
She still doesn’t consider herself a Geek, but she is huge on shiny new gadgets, was the one who demanded we go out at 3 am for the PS3; quotes movies all the time, including lots of Monty Python; and spends hours on end tweeking her new computer, she just had to get one with all the different video ports and a 24′ rotating monitor. Oh, and has been watching you for the past two days, she really wants that strange keyboard that lights up now. Her machine makes my little laptop seem pathetic now, but I love how cute she looks when she finds something new to play with.
The only thing is she makes fun of me being a geek, but fights to no end that she isn’t. *sighs* One can never win.
Still I’d love her if she wasn’t a geek, it is just a plus. *grins*

I wanted to be an artist growing up, but now I build web sites and web applications. People have said I am hott, cute, sexy, attractive, but like the saying goes.. beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I used to be in Computer Science 3.5 years then switched over to Web Technology and earned my Bachelor’s in that. My strengths, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, XHTML and probably Sybase for database. I have worked with AJAX, JQuery, ColdFusion, PERL, Catalyst Framework, Template ToolKit and more (check out my portfolio). I’ve had Java courses in my college. I was also heavy on the martial arts, learning how to break dance and other social activities. People typically are unable to guess my profession and my hobbies.
It’s a shame to not see more females, including emphasis on the fact that they can be a beauty AND a geek, in this male dominated field. I agree, I would say it’s because of how society brought us up. It starts off with girls be given dolls and boys be given more technical toys. I always thought my brother’s toys were much cooler and adults couldn’t comprehend that. I pretty much broke social norms expected of me. “Pretty” girls are typically expected to model, actress, or whatever profession related to looks/femininity and more susceptible to being passed as the trophy wife for their significant other to show off.
I didn’t understand much about computers until I was probably about 16, and didn’t program until 18ish which is pretty late in the geek world, but I’m really determined. When I realized I learned pretty it quickly and finally knew what I wanted to study, people told me “Women don’t know how to program” and that I’m not smart enough to succeed in it so I should just forget it. Of course I didn’t listen and I’m glad I didn’t. Screw norms.
Anyways, interesting blog.
p.s. I use Joomla for my blogs and implemented it into my existing websites. :)
