My problem with the flash player is that you can’t jump to a specific frame, just the closest i-frame. This takes away a lot of possibilities for applications.

I don’t see where you can subscribe via RSS, so therefore I’m not that interested in yet another media player. I use Miro and love that. The interface design is nice of AMP, however now becoming typical as well.

FYI, I just found under ‘Favorites’ where you subscribe via RSS… so maybe I will use this… we’ll see over time :)

Chris, I was very disappointed with it….
1st off, it looks like a WIndows app in terms of GUI. It does not play well with spaces at all (I cannot click on the window and then select another space and have it move, nor will it move when I drag it to the edge – I need to show all the spaces and then move the Window from one to another).
Lastly, the system requirements are abysmal. While under Windows you can do 480p on a Pentium 4 1.8, and 1080p on a Core Duo 2.0, on the Mac you need a G5 Dual 2.0 for 480p!!! and a 3 GhZ Core 2 Duo for 1080p – excluding ANY consumer Mac. Shame on Adobe. Shame on them.

I loaded AMP up yesterday and started playing around with it. I added a few favorites, which was easy enough, and very much convenient. However, when watching some episodes of MacGyver on CBS Classic, I noticed that playback and resume features could seem to lock it up a bit. I ended up having to watch the first 10 minutes of an episode before it finally started playing correctly.

Perhaps this was user error, but perhaps it was just a little slow, being an initial release, and all.

Overall, though, I am very much liking the program, and know that it will only get better.

I like some of its features.

The TV shows are OK. I don’t like the low quality of some the videos. I don’t their navigation either.

bleh, i have tried adobe media player and was not a big fan. it’s just not my cup of tea.

I have to download videos quite frequently and, until now, they were running in QuickTime which, on my machine, was slow as can be. This media player has allowed me to play this videos about a million times faster then before and has ended my search for an alternate media player.

Nice video Chris. Solid information as always! I always was wondering if Adobe would mae a midea. Like you suaid they are a huge company with a huge budget! I hope to see great things from this midea player and hopefully it will get alot of buzzzzzzzz.

I downloaded a Adobe Media Player, just yesterday, and I think it has good and bad things. I like being able to favorite podcasts and being able to see when there is a new “show.” The program does run a little on the slow side though. :)

I surprised they did not releases an SDK with it. After the adobe flex 3 thing I thought that adobe was opening up. But that to good to be true. If Adobe ever released the code of Flash the world would go crazy. That will be the day the world ends. Speaking of it does it play .mp3 and .flv files. But I think they should try to integrate it with the web. Almost like what Microsoft did with there media player.

This player has a very nice interface. I tried using it for a video I downloaded from youtube, and it plays it; however, the video plays at original resolution, which is very small for youtube. There is an option to play at full screen to make it larger. It finally made it better, but this media player doesn’t do any post-processing. This means that the video is very blocky. I like the VLC player much better. This one is more fun to play around with though! It has a very stylish feel and a good UI.

(also… I could not do any type of screen capturing with VLC, but I got it working right away with adobe’s media player.)

I think that the Adobe Media Player is a very interesting concept, but I think that even flash will go away with the release of Microsoft Silverlight.

It is quite buggy and it is constantly freezing my computer! Oh well get it anyways.

The one thing I don’t like about it is that your videos have to be in a certain format before you can add them to your list. Other than that, it’s pretty nice. Anxious to watch it evolve.

I personally think that the Adobe Player, is worth it, because it has a lot of capabilities.

My computer can’t run it! I have too sucky computer! (Intel pentium 3: 733Mhz processor, 255 MB ram and 32Mb of Vram) The system requirements pwn my computer totally, i quess my computer is too oldskool to even surf on the internet.. ok, just had nuff’ of this damn computer.. I start saving money and when i have enought money im gonna buy a new computer.. a really nice one. Naahh, i stay with this one.. for about 3 months then i buy new one.

Install, Xubuntu. it’s ubuntu, but for older computers. It’s will make your computer run really good.

Is SP3 any good or shall I stick with SP2?

I dislike Flash…its not even fully crossplatform. Its buggy on Linux and it annoys me that Adobe are not accomodating towards this open-source OS.

Is AMP for videos only? Or am I able to play anything on it?

Chris, the Adobe Media player works beautifully, does all kinds of wonderful things AND IS A DISASTER FOR ANYONE OLDER THAN 40.

With the light text on dark background, I can’t read the text or find any of the links to click on. I had to shut all the window shades in the room to find the close program X.

I first discovered how disrespectful Adobe is of elders when I bought the latest version of Photoshop Elements, also all light text (grayish! not even white as on the media player) on dark background a couple of months ago. When I emailed asking if they could supply me with an older version, dark-text-on-light-background or refund the price (I’d glad send back the disk), I got a one-sentence terse reply that they had no intention of redesigning the interface.

With the huge boomer population aging, I think Adobe is designing themselves out of the market. I’d love to use the Adobe media player for all the reasons you outline, but it’s just too hard to use.

Does this company really want to eliminate half the country from its potential user base? And anyway, aside from usability issues, dark backgrounds stopped being kewl in about 1999.
