E-Mail:

Is AOL Still Worth Downloading, Installing, and Using?

I remember when every day the mail would come, and there was at least one AOL disc included. It was everywhere, and you couldn’t seem to get away from it.

Over the next couple of months, AOL will be laying off more than 2,000 workers. This doesn’t really come as a suprise to many people. AOL is not the powerhouse it once was.

The software package is so bloated, and can seriously bog down your system. It is also Adware driven. Back in the day, AOL was one of the few options for getting online and having Email. However, it’s a simple thing to get online these days, and there’s honestly no reason to have to install this huge package that can slow you down, give you ads, and all the “features” you don’t even want or need.

I had aol until about two or three years ago, not realizing that I didn’t even need it to get online. I tried to uninstall it on my laptop, which was apparently a huge mistake. An epic battle ensued and four hours later, aol was finally off of my computer. It would literally reinstall itself, if I did not remove all of the files at once. It was a nightmare.

not a chance, avoid AOL like the plague!

I’ve stopped using AOL when we finally got DSL. Even more so when Firefox came along.

I stupidly stuck with it till last November. I like internet suite’s so I was trying to find a good one that integrated email into it, then I found Opera and made the switch. I was stupid for waiting that long, but so long as I found the error in my ways lol.

Some guy in the chat (couldn’t make out his name) actually said Ubuntu sucks. This isn’t related to the topic, but this guy must be a Windows fanboy or just enjoy virus’ and system crashes.

AOL: “Goodbye!” I don’t want to pay for AOL if I have High Speed Internet. Unless is Dial Up and I’m not paying like $25 dollars for that! I rather go with People PC instead!

AOL is fantastic for me… im from UK and have had it for 4 years. I don’t have anything bad to say about it since i have a wireless router so don’t use the AOL software. I play counterstrike and always get good pings

The world will be a better place when AOL is gone completely.

AOL Floppys made good storage disks, never had to buy Floppy disks, got one daily. As far as AOL cds, they work good for fishing :)

AO-HELL!

First thing I do when spring cleaning someone’s computer is remove AOL - it’s just AWFUL!

AOL is essentially offering up “their version” of the web and email etc - let people learn about POP3 email and web browsers - we don’t need to be spoon fed anymore, we don’t need extra bloatware on our systems, and we don’t need AOHELL!

I’ve installed it once years and years ago and used their browser while connected to a university LAN that connected me to the web. I thought it was kinda cute but couldn’t see any real practical value to it since I already had an internet connection (much faster than they could ever provide!). I uninstalled it and have never used it since!!
