iPhone Update 2.0 Imminent?
Surfing through my feeds, I stumbled into this (and who knows, the rumor has likely already been covered everywhere else) – a thread on HardMac.com regarding an impending iPhone firmware update. “2.0″ will allegedly bring with it:
- Support for Flash
- Support for files with extension .Docx (as Mac OS X does natively)
- A simple file manager
- A “Clipboard” to manage copied and pasted text
- Ability to send files to the “Clipboard” via email or Bluetooth
- iClips management (potentially the name of apps distributed via iTunes)
- A more complete Bluetooth manager
- iChat accessible only via WiFi
Now, that would be one helluva update. More in the thread.

At least that’s assuming that Apple sticks with what Jobs had stated back in January during his keynote. There has been a slew of rumors surrounding the SDK and release of a coinciding firmware upgrade.Chris Pirilloposted this tiny list of alleged updates due in the new firmware. Support for Flash Support for files with extension .Docx (as Mac OS X does natively) A simple file manager A “Clipboard” to manage copied and pasted text

if this update occurs it will really be a step up, however i think a lot of people are going to still say they are holding out for 3G and GPS

Wow, that would be one hell of an update. Also sound a lot like the wish list that’s been floating around since the iPhone came out. Sounds nice though and at least the flash part is more than likely to be in the next update.

I certainly hope that this will come to the iPhone. Especially flash!! thats one of the most important things you need nowadays. The clipboard would be useful, however i haven’t really found myself wanting to copy and paste stuff. So that isnt really a killer feature for me.
Hopefully the bluetooth will be able to connect to more devices instead of just those headset things.
Also, wpa2 encryption support and video recording would be nice. :D

If the iPhone/iPod Touch had flash support, the battery would run out before you could enjoy the flash animation.

I was one of those Apple snobs to stand in line for 5 hours the day the iPhone came out. I have no regrets :) Compaints? Yes! But no regrets.
Particularly, I am looking forward to being able to copy and paste to and fro. And FINALLY, if sources are true, FLASH SUPPORT!!! I cannot wait! My phone is slowly becomeing more of a computer and I am graciously welcoming this new update!
Once again, if the sources prove to be acurate.

I’m looking forward to this for the flash support, I still hope they add a way to send contact information via bluetooth, thats one ability I miss from my old phone was the ability to send a vcard to others when I wanted to share contact information.

Haha thats awesome. Then people can finally watch you on the iPhone/Pods. I tested out Colloquy on the iPod Touch… It’s good and everything but then after a while it starts changing colors and stuff cause too many people in the chat keep typing.

Hey Chris, I think that the only thing I would be looking foward to seeing in the next version of the iPhone is flash. It would be awesome to see Chris’s stream on my iPhone.

Those look like some really nice updates! I’ve been wanting an iPhone for some time now and if these update do come out for it then I will try to get rid of the phone I currently have and get an iPhone.
Thanks for the info!

I think the iPhone should of had flash support from day one. Plus, copy and paste is much needed. And the ichat support would be a great added feature. Weather Apple adds these features all at once or over the next year I guess we will find out. Once they are added, it will make the Jesus phone even better.

In my opinion, the iPhone is not a suitable device to support all of that. I do have an iPod touch, which is pretty darn close to the same thing, and I don’t see much of that happening until we get 3g speeds, which I don’t think apple is excited or anxious to do. But, there is obviously some credibility to this. The SDK will be coming out within two weeks or so, and obviously both iTunes and the iPhone/iPod Touch will need a major update, and what better opportunity does Apple have to release the update we never had? I still don’t know what to think. It would be a really nice update for sure.

I have an iphone and have been excited about every update, but also very disappointed to what actually gets updated. This next update will be no different. This list that you have is simply a wish list. There is no way this is the list. Flash and Copy and Paste wont be around for quite some time. Most likely they will be updates that will be “purchasable” on iTunes.

this will be very good, but i am wondering on things like next gen iphone and stuff, because usually they get to about v2.00 before they go and make a new model….

Well, I would like to see some flash in the iPhone SDK. I think that such a powerful(and big, 8 or 16 GB) does not have flash. Its like a computer not having Microsoft Word. Its just stupid. Also, 3G!! I have wi-fi at my house, but when i have to use Edge, I just die. I had AOL a few years ago, so I know what slow Internet is. EDGE needs to go. Lastly, put some more apps on it. I know I’m getting killed for this, but I think that the iPhone needs some more apps and more in depth apps. For example, weather. It tells you the current temperature, and the next 7 days temperature and how the day will be. Well, some people want more. Like how the pressure is outside, the humitidy, and so on and so forth. Also, a great app would be a sports app. Like having the scores of every game with the touch of your finger

well I’ve read what everyone had to say about the update. And apple should of had all these features from day one. Honestly they didnt have the phone ready when they released it what they did was good but they just didnt do enough. I don’t need another iPod I need a smart phone and iPhone isn’t in that catorgory it dpsent of the features of free phone. Its just stupid they owe it to us I got a message from att if u forward this message to 10 people we will take 60$ off ur bill I couldn’t forward because the phone don’t feature forwarding nor copy and paste so I was stuck and every day I get mesages saying forward and I just delete them which on my old phone I was able to do that and slot more.
