Hi Chris,

I’m not quite sure if this is where i’m supposed to ask questions, but here goes. I recently downloaded the latest Sabayon from their website, and the installation process isn’t quite going the way i hoped. It initially seems to be going well, but then “hangs” at 34%. I have tried many times with the same result. Online search on the installation process reveals that during the download of the file packets can get “lost”. My copy seems to be ok and i was wondering whether or not there are any known issues concerning this or if the installation process takes unusually longer when installing certain programs. Partition magic is installed and it suggests that linux swap shouldn’t be on the same harddrive as the os itself, but the automatic Sabayon’s installation does place them within the same partition. Other concerns are the placement of the linux partiton(before or after xp), the minimun size etc. I currently run xp and have 1.5gb of ddr2 ram, a intel d930 processor(i’m no quite sure if u need to know any of this to answer my questions), i assume that the hardware is compatible. Thanks for your time.

If you’re a fan of Earthcomber for BB, Palm or WinMo, there’s an iPhone ‘version’ that works great. Point Safari on your iPhone to: mobile.earthcomber.com

For those not familiar, it’s a ‘personal radar’ application that helps you find things local to your location. Google Maps is nice, but Earthcomber has a nice interface for categories and such.

“Do you take VIDEO??” lol. That’s my biggest show-stopper (as I’ve mentioned a million times). At least you have a new toy, man. We all love new toys. Oh–and you *can* upload pictures to flickr, which is cool, even if you can’t upload videos to Blip. You can even upload pictures to flickr along with a blog post, and flickr will cross-post them to your blog… but I digress…

I was at the AT&T store last Friday and took another look at the iPhone. It’s a very nice device. It has the same kind of design appeal that the original iBooks had. Well, that’s not quite true. The iPhone is sexy. The original iBooks were cute.

The iPhone is typical of recent Apple designs. Highly appealing on almost a romantic level. The device appeals to emotion. The iPhone makes you want it. It’s an object of desire. It’s sleek. It’s sexy. It’s even beautiful. But it’s also a trophy phone. No, it’s not even a trophy phone. It’s a mistress. It’s a lot of fun on the weekend but don’t try to get anything meaningful accomplished with it.

The iPhone is for meaningless fun only. It’s a whore. It’s a filthy high-priced whore. It’s a dirty little minx that likes to do nasty things in Paris Hilton’s purse with her Mac makeup brushes when it thinks nobody is looking. However, it’s my Treo taking the video and uploading it to the internet. I’m not ready to replace my Treo with an iPhone.

Look, the iPhone is the newer-hotter phone. It’s sexy and I want it. Everyone wants it. It’s the most popular phone on the net but most of the time it just sits around looking good and not much anything else.

I have a relationship with my Treo and we’re comfortable together. My Treo is always there for me. Plus, we like doing the same things. Sure, it’s not a head turner anymore. Quite frankly, the Treo is a little fat. It bulges. It’s thick. But when I need something to work or I need to work on something, it’s my Treo that’s there for me. If I can do it on my desktop, chances are very good that I can do it on my Treo. It’s up for anything. Ever try to 3-way with a Treo. It’s practically begging for it every time call waiting has a line parked.

What about Gmail? No problem. 3G network? You know it. Threaded SMS (think instant message)? Of course. Receive, edit, and email MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint? Yes. Read PDFs? Absolutely. Capture video? Uh huh. Play MP3s, take pictures, email, web surf, create content, balance the checkbook, shop online, Twitter, IM chat, and type long rants on blogs… yes! Yes! YEESSSSSSS!!! My Treo may not be very sexy but Treo knows what I need.

I’m happy with my Treo. Don’t get me wrong, I liked fooling around with the iPhone but I’m an adult. I’m not a kid anymore. I’m looking to settle down and build something for the future. I need a phone I can depend on. I need to get things done. I need my Treo.

entertained me for half a hour. got a lil look at the iPhone. nice!

thanks a lot!

Dan

Sounds like your wife knows you better than you do!

Happy birthday Chris!

Gee, an excitable boy production, nice to watch you enter into the realm of computing with fruit. Have fun converting all your MP3’s in the IPod unit, it takes forever and gives you lots of time to do other things, read War and Peace, clean the garage, reorganize your sock drawer. Have fun with it and looking forward to your adventures in Jobsland.

NO. one of those free cell phones is good enough…after all it’s just to communicate with someone… this , this is just fun!

Hey! if ya don’t want it then…like we say to those players on mmorpg games who whine about changes in the game and threaten to leave…
