for those of us who don’t use command prompts much anymore, make sure that the prompt includes “desktop” – if it doesn’t, the rename function will not work – file will not be found. once i was in the right directory, i was able to properly rename and delete.

well, i have read through and tried every “useful” post and after a year…i still have a stupid icon on my DT that i cannot get rid of.

any more suggestions?

with the zip trick, i do not have the “delete” checkerbox available to select

i have tried all of the “cmd” tricks all of which come up with a syntax error or another despite changing several thigs like space vs no space 255 or 0160 etc….

any other tricks? i cannot rename the folder in question but i can change the icon…dragging it to the recycle bin does nothing as well.

ok! so here is how you make it “invisible”
to make it invisible ur personal files xD
first rename ur folder name to a space
then start>run type cmd
then type attrib +s +h C:\[alt+0160]
the [ and ] do not include…
ok so now the it is invisible if u want to see it again cahnge the “+” to “-”
but u can quickly go to that folder but do not make it appear again by changing the address like C:\[alt+0160]

oh and about the comment, why $ instead of ” ” …. You are typing (ALT+1060) instead of (ALT+0160)…

C:\Users\Daniel\Desktop> ren “C:\Users\Daniel\Desktop\(ALT+0160)” “New Name” did the trick!

For any Syntax error, make sure you have a space everywhere one is needed, i.e. between ren and ” …

For emample:
C:\Users\Daniel\Desktop> ren____here____”C:\Users\Daniel\Desktop\(ALT+0160)”____here____”New Name”

How come when i reach the point of renaming (Alt + 1060) i don’t get total space, but a dollar(!?)For the first time i don’t money!!
So anyone who had the same issue, you clould really have the occasion to be someone’s favorite person.Tempted?!?! joke

Tried everything above and the file name still doesn’t appear, keep getting the message in the command window “…syntax is incorrect”, any help please?

Thanks alot Craig, it worked when i typed the source of the file ,like you did :D.

“ren C:\Users\Sam\Desktop\ALT+0160 AAA”

Dont forget the Quotes, and make sure you use the right User name.
