I think the amount of instant messenger viruses that are around is sadly increasing; I am constantly seeing more people who’s systems are infected by malware and are sending out links here, there and everywhere – yet the user is oblivious and has no idea as to what is going on.

I think the best piece of advice a person could give would just be to (a) not accept files from people you don’t know, and always ask what the file is before downloading and (b) only click on links if you have been in a prior conversation with the person and not is they send a one off link with a strange URL.

I think the worst IM service for viruses is probably Windows Live; which in my experience is full of viruses, people trying to get into your machine and other things. Although I don’t want to stereotype a WL Messenger user and would say that although there are lots of genuine people out there who use WLM purely for IM purposes there are a minority that like to cause trouble for other uses; usually people who they don’t know.

hej guys someone said here that you can just make another emailadres and that it’s solved then.. maybe it is so but is it also good if you just change your password? because someone told that the virus does nothing but searching for you pass en send links time after time..
so is changing your pass effective or not? because my girlfriend has the virus..

ah, but does it do any maliscious or destructive to your system in the end?
or can it just use your account to send out spam and advertising… etc?

It’s more of an annoyance than anything else. it just takes your password and signs in randomly on its own repeatedly sending links out to others on its contact list.
Haven’t caught the virus myself but a few on my list have it.

There’s an Msn Virus being sent out that installs to yr Messenger not your hard drive and mas sends links out to people on your list repeatedly to the virus.
Trouble is if you get infected with it, its yr msn account that is infected not your pc.
Quick solve open a new account and warn every one on your old account.

you remember this old virus? Hey, is this a picture of you?

and if you click on it you get infected and it sends to others and burns your hard drive? well, I recieved that message once but it wasnt a image file so I sent back to him “WTF ARE YOU DOING SENDING ME A VIRUS”
and he came on a few days later and said “sorry it was a virus I had”

yer, as chris said, ask your friend if they sent you it, ask them what it is, make sure its a safe format e.g, MP3, WMV, JPEG, GIF, ususally EXE progrmas are a bit suspicious on messenger if they didnt mean to send it toy you, if you still unsure, SCAN YOUR FILE BEFORE YOU OPEN IT!!!!!!

Install the trial of kaspersky and remove it, it worked for me too

i got this virus my friend sent me (he didnt know) and i opened it :( and i got this virus… the virus file name is ‘wkssvc.exe’ and theres another one it dropped called ’spool.exe’
ne ideas on how to remove it?
