I'm on The Far Side

The thing about The Far Side is that you either really get it - or you really don't. You either love The Far Side, or you loathe it. Gary Larson, in my mind, is one of our generation's best cartoonist. His humor, I could only hope to one day match - living in The Far Side world is something I think we've all longed for at one point in our lives. It's true that I'm selling a few of my older Far Side Gallery books, but that's only because Ponzi got me The Complete Far Side for Christmas. With 4,300 single-panel comics… I'm finding some that I've never seen before. Perhaps I can get my dad to give The Far Side another shot; he puzzled for hours over how a standoff between two worm cowboys would always end in a draw. The Far Side is finally a little nearer to me.

I've always loved the Far Side for its special sense of humor.
To me he is a comic descendant of Charles Addams. Chris, you may remember the Addams family movies & the TV show, but for the real thing, you have to see the New Yorker cartoons themselves, and you will see the connections. In the meantime, enjoy Gary Larson & have a Merry Christmas.

Totally agree with you Chris! The Far Side has always been one of my favorites. Although my number one favorite still has to be Calvin And Hobbes. Bill Watterson if you are reading this please come back!

Couldn't agree with you more, Chris. I love the Far Side. My daughters does, too. I bought her the complete collection also. Man, that's a little on the heft side, too! Speaking of understanding, though, I remember reading an interview with Gary Larsen and even he admitted that he didn't know what “Cow Tools” meant. (And, if you're a Far Side 'geek,' you'll now the cartoon I'm speaking about.

I never understood the far side comics, im more of a garfield, calvin and hobbes guy, i like the boondocks too, its kinda hard to understand, but if you have that certain sense of humor, you'll get it quick.

[...] From Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Far_Side The Complete Far Side was released, which contains nearly every Far Side comic ever published. (The collection is missing parody art pieces from Wiener Dog Art and some material from The Prehistory of the Far Side.) Also more positive evidence here http://chris.pirillo.com/2004/12/23/im-on-the-far-side/ they talk about selling some gallery books because they’ve been bought the complete books for Christmas. I am an avid reader and I too have the complete collection in the weight lifters binder set. It is the holy grail of The Far Side in my opinion. Gary Larson is indeed a brilliant mind. I would love to see some more fresh material come from his altered point of view so that we all could relish in his humor once again. Until then I will enjoy my collection of Far Side wit and share with those who like you have said either love or loathe.
