I’m Gonna Get Lei’ed!

As I mentioned in tonight's report, Ponzi and I are flying to the state of Hawaii (or would that be the state of bliss?) in a couple of weeks. No real reason, really. She's already sick of the Seattle winter – even though it hasn't really kicked in yet. I'll miss the rain when we're in Maui. I plan on doing plenty of surfing while we're out there, though. Internet surfing, that is. As I mentioned in the aforelinked article, we're already signed up for a few activities. The most interestin being the Hana and Haleakala Helicopter Tour; we'll travel through Maui's most remote areas as we ascend to the top of the world's largest dormant volcano, Haleakala, which means “house of the sun.” The immense moonlike crater and pure iron oxide cinder cones reach a towering 1,100 feet towards the sky. WHAT?! I've listed the rest of the extensive Hawaii schedule in the report if you care to look.

A couple of notes – Haleakala is high enough that the average temperature is about 30 degrees colder at the top than the bottom, so remember to dress warmly when you do that trip. You should also consider snorkeling Molokini if you have time. Also a must is a trip to Hookipa beach on the north shore which may be the #1 windsurfing beach in the world. Maui as I recall is only about 120 miles around but probably has more great beaches than anywhere else on earth. I know you'll have a great time.

Ah…. isn't is nice what Google AdSense can buy you :)

Please cancel the helicopter tour. The noise polllution from those damn things ruins the experience for everyone else.

You may escape our lovely grey days but you are very incorrect about escaping the rain. The average rain fall in November in Seattle is 5.8 inches. Depending on where you are in Maui county you could be in for a lot more! Haleakala averages 10.82 inches in November, Hana 6.31, Wailuku 7.96, Puu Kukui is way up there at 50 inches. Other places are lower like Kapalua with 3.93 or Lahaina with 1.02 so bring a jacket and a bumpershoot.

My fiancee and I are going to Hawaii in July for our honeymoon. I can't wait!
