I'm Gettin' a What?

I love my Dell Inspiron 8100 so much! Just before Gnomedex II, its screen crapped out (which sent me into a nightmarish tech support spiral). The power adapter went belly up a few months ago – and last night, the hard drive decided to take a nose dive without permission. I tried feeding it some Linux, but it still refused to play nicely. I'm off to the online Support form to see if I can get the issue resolved without any kind of vocal interaction. Well, at least the Family Guy DVD boxed set is here to keep me company until Gretchen gets home.

My Dell Inspiron 8100 rarely leaves the floor now since its so slow. The CD-ROM drive decided to quit many moons ago so I have no way of formatting it. (Yah I could buy a 2nd-bay internal cd-rom but that requires money).

Just wait 'til the motherboard starts to overheat making your I,K,M,8 and “,” keys completely useless. You get to try and “twist” the frame around until the contacts align again. That's the fun-filled next stop on the Dell Inspiron tour…

::communal knocking on wood:: my Compaq Presario is several years old now and hasnt given me hardly any trouble at all.. they're as reliable, in the computer world, as Toyotas and Hondas in the car world, IMO. :) ::communal knocking on wood::

PowerBook G4 15″ w/ SuperDrive

I've got a Inspiron 8100 too and except the HDD everything's fine so far…
From time to time the HDD makes *very* frightening sounds – but nothing that a little brutality couldn't solve. I just hope that I will never have to deal w/ the so called costumer-support… They whole ordering-procedure has already been a struggle: delivery took *three* month.

You're usually the one helping us and now you need the help. I hope you get this resolved.

My 8100 is a hunk of junk. I needed a new MB because it stoped charging the battery, then the RAM went bad (How I don't know) And now it freezes for no reason… dude I got shafted.

ibook

Holy crap! Family Guy is out on DVD? *scrambles for Amazon*

Should we be warning Gretchen to not come home until you're finished enjoying your DVD's? Computerwise: I love my Vaio! I wish it had a larger hard drive, but who doesn't want their computer to have a bigger hard drive? It's almost two years old and I have yet to have a problem with it.

Victory is mine!!
Damn you all!!!

My 3+ years of horrible experiences with Dell are documented at this page I put up. http://yakk0.org/dell

yeah, too bad about Dell, they could have been much more (and still could if they would wise up)

Talk about a downward spiral! What happened to that Lindows laptop you had??

Ha! My place of employment has about 15 Inspiron 8100s, and I hate using them because the plastic around the screens feel so cheap, the LCDs are junk and the keyboards suck. Our Dell Desktop and Server line has been very good. Except for earlier today when hardware on one of our servers failed due to a NetWare service pack update.

Just don't get a thinkpad!

I think I got the last copy of the boxed set in town tonight…great minds think alike!

Man I'll tell ya one dang ol' thing man them dang ol' Dells man you click, click, click and them dang ol' things man make all them sounds like dang ol' stock cars dang……server not found man them dang ol' things man, they dang ol' 404 errors that dang ol' Gnome man hard drive vapor lockin' power 'dapter crashin' that dang laptop in that dang ol' locker stuff.

Dammit, I MUST go out tomorrow and try to find me a copy of the boxed set. Screw my credit rating….
*Stewie singing* I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts (everybody!), there they are all sitting in a row (just the women!)…

Hey Chris, Just be thankful you don't have a desktop system. Dell just moved all their support (outsourced) to India. They're portable support I *THINK* is still in my old call center, but it's quickly going overseas.

For all you bitched about your Dell Laptop on CFH, you would think Dell would have tried to make it right a looooong time ago. Their bad. Well, I am dreaming of an Alienware laptop, anyway. My Dell tower has been running 100% for 4 years.

I like my wife's ibook for home computing.
I use a G4 down in my studio. I'm afraid of windows.
HEY CHRIS:
You inspired me to create a blog on my band's website..THANKS!

Finally the 1st 2 seasons of Family Guy is out on DVD. They probably won't release “When You Wish Upon a Weinstein” episode. It sucks that the Family Guy was cancelled in the first place. Damn Fox!

Hey Chris, why not get the Alienware laptop, the green one. That would be so cool!

Don't even consider Alienware's laptop. They are the same as Sager's laptop but at least $300 more. Sager doesn't make their own laptops either as they are made by some company called Clevo. Alienware may have prettier colors (if you can call it that).

I loves me some no pants fridays!

My Samsung VM series is alright – a bit low specced, but it does the job. The battery was a let-down though; after a year, it's capacity has dropped from 2 1/2 hours to around 1/2 hour. Still, it runs Windows XP Home and Mandrake 9.1 well enough. BTW, here's an amusing article about Dell's poor track record: http://www.guardian.co.uk/consumer/story/0,3605,938232,00.html

I love my fujitsu c series Lifebook and have had very few problems with it. (knock on wood)

Funny how a Dell Inspiron can inspire someone to throw it out the window. Dell makes okay desktops, but they make horrible laptops. In comparison, I love my Compaq Presario 2700 laptop. Compaq sucks in desktops, but their laptops now are actually pretty sturdy.

ThinkPad! Awesome! – eBay! Cheap!

You should have titled this:
“Dude — I'm Getting Screwed”
And thinkpads aren't all that much better.

I have the Inspiron 4100 at work. Haven't had any problems with it so far.
What's that burning smell?

Its my processor that I have overclocked 3 times overnight. Had anyone taken off their pants yet?

Dell is in the toilet and reaching for anything that floats as far as customer satisfaction is concerned. What is up with the proprietary replacement carts. for their new line of printers?

I have an iBook 12″ 700mhz model. It's ok….but too slow compared to my Windows desktop. The battery crapped out on me within the 1st year, I really want the new 12″ powerbook….Apple has to get going on the CPU speed though. *my 2 cents*

Gotta love Family Guy though. That was a great show!

I am not wearing pants. I thought you would all like to know. It is Friday you know.
Make a Good Friday a Great Friday by working pantless!

My Dell warranty ran out April 17. I had USB problems and started the email trail a week before. Supposedly they are shipping me a new motherboard. I have had 3 Dell desktops and this is the first time I've had trouble. Let's hope it's the last time, I'll be looking to upgrade my desktop soon and if Dell drops the support ball, I'll go elsewhere.

Wooohuu…
Sleepy boy…^_^

I love my toshiba. I have a satellite…not that pricey and I have had no probs with them. I got two for the bosses at work, and one for a friend. Two students where I work have dells and both have had the lcd's go out inside two years.

I have a sony vaio, which is now a $3600 paperweight. The screen died. Twice. The keyboard stopped responding and had to be replaced, the dvd rom drive had to be replaced, and the battery also had to be replaced. The hard drive died too. That's when I bought an iBook. Life is good now.

Well at least if you have a boat you just got yourself a nice anchor!

Oh yeah! Check out the great deals we have at http://www.mwcomputersolutions.com The prices are actually lower now than what is posted so check us out!

The problems with the DELL 8100 are in the Bios. The synaptics Touch pad Drivers and if you have the ATI Radeon 7500 video. The fan not turning on at the right temperature, the turn on and turn off is set too high. I started with the A8 Bios an now up to the A15 Bios. The fan ran alot more in the A8 than in the A15. Some of the problems I had are in Windows XP! THe unit is running OK at this time. But it still run Hot!

I recommend to always buy a Dell Latitude…Much more solidly built and tested than the Inspirons.
The C840s seem to be pretty damn good.
I've always had good success with IBMs as well. They seem to make nice solid laptops.

That's why the phrase “Dude! You're gettin a Dell!” is becoming synonymous with “Dude! You're gettin a royal screwing, man!”
However, their tech support makes up for their awful machines. (Actually . . . no.)

MMmmmm Family Guy.. my set gets shipped today :)

I have a refurb 8100 w/15″ screen and the only problem I've had with it is XP.
It's worked well for quite a while now. My last door stop got pushed out of the way waaayyy too easily but not anymore! !)
In all seriousness mine hasn't acted up, but then again it is still under warenty.

What Do You Think?
