I’ll Think of a Title for this Video Later: I’m Procrastinating

So yeah, last night Wicket wanted to go for a walk, and then the phone rang and then I wanted to play Tetris for awhile. I never did get around to doing any videos. I mean… why do today what I can put off until tomorrow with?

  • How Much? Look at what you have to do. If you have a few days to do it, like for a project, do a little each day. The quality will end up better, and you won’t be rushed to finish it. If it is a short assignment and it is due tomorrow, then do it when you get home from school. Don’t save projects until the night before, but don’t do it all on the first night!
  • Consequences/Rewards What happens if you don’t do the work? Will you fail and get yelled at? What happens when you do it and get a good grade? Look at what you get from doing the work on time and not being rushed. If you don’t do it, you will most likely get yelled at and possibly grounded. Is that worth the time it would have taken to do the homework? You may think it is pointless right now and you just want to “chill,” but look at the bigger picture. Most of the time it is obvious that the time it would take to do the work is a lot less than the time the time spent getting yelled at or being grounded.
  • Timing Don’t rush yourself. By putting the work off until the last minute, not only are you going to have a reduced-quality piece of work, but you will get stressed. If you have more than 1 day to do it, use those days! If there is only one day to do it, do it early (like when you come home from school) and then look at it again later, or have a parent look at it. Look for mistakes, and make it a bit neater.
  • What Else Is There? If you want to go out with friends, try and get some work done first. If you can’t, do it when you get home. Getting it done while you are awake is important. But, don’t let it consume all your time. If all you do is spend time on work and projects, you are going to get stressed out and in the end, you will probably give up easier on work down the road. Have fun and get your work done. Find the balance that is right for you, but, remember, the work still has to be done.
  • Think About It! This is one that really helps me – thinking about what needs to be done. If there is a lot of stuff to do, think about it. It can make you more aware of how important it is to do it. When you think about it, remember what the rewards and consequences are and where they come into play. Look at the whole picture. What do you have to do? What happens when you don’t do it? What happens when you do it? What other things do I want to do today? This is largely what gets me motivated to do work, as 99% of the time, there is an incentive for me.

Really like the title…im a big procrastinater…because i can. I have done book reports the night before for years, even the morning. i had to read a 200 page book….Procrastination is the best way to live

Sometimes working under pressure produces better work for some people than for others working over a period of time. It’s just the way some people work.

It’s very hard to get stuff done while ur asleep :-)

I thought of a really whitty comment…and I’ll post it sooner or later. ;)

i once wrote a book report without reading the book! and i got 96%! and on top of all that, I did it all the day before it was due :D

Lol. you could dream your way to your cubicle at work.

I was not sure if i should comment through this new DISQUS thing so I’m sticking with this for now…

I just wanted to talk for the maker of this, Rutger, he is very thankful lol.

Those are great tips, I guess they partially follow up my tips in a way.

I need to keep that all in mind in my schooling :).

I remember I did the same thing.. a research paper on “How technology Improved the American life style” .. A topic I knew i would enjoy researching but didn’t like doing research papers. I had tons of cards to organize but waited until the very last night.. and stood up till 4 am .. “Even did it in pencil!” and handed it in. I knew it had to get done so I forced myself to do it. If I did bad on it, I would have failed the grade but I got a 95%! would have got a 98% or 100% if I typed it and fixed grammar but left it as is cause it was done and over with to me.
I Enjoy the humor, Enjoy the reviews, enjoy the show! lata Chris!

I’ll post a comment later.

I have big problems with procrastination. As a boy scout, you must complete a service project to achieve the highest rank- eagle scout. This must be done before you turn 18. I finished my service project a week before turning 18.

Don’t procrastinate! It isn’t fun…

I like the idea of active procrastination. I think I have used it before subconsciously. I doubt that I will ever stop procrastinating, so this method works for me.

As a boy scout, you have to complete a service project to become an eagle scout. All requirements for this rank must be finished before turning 18. I procrastinated and finished a week before my 18th birthday. Everybody was bugging me, and it wasn’t fun. I would have been much happier if the project had been done 2 summers ago, when I had tried to start it. This would have given me plenty of time to relax and earn extra merit badges.

Don’t procrastinate work just so you can have fun now. If you get the work done sooner, you have more control over how you schedule. A big plus is that adults/people won’t hover around you when the due date is approaching and you haven’t finished yet. I say these things hypocritically, but I know that this is the way I should be doing my work.

Once I start something I can’t rest until I finish because if I try to go back to resume to do it later or the next day I forget what I was doing.

You know, I have a really good response, but I think I’ll post it tomorrow. :D

I agree with the mysterious voice, on active procrastination. I read an article on it not too long ago, but basically you keep yourself busy, and you procrastinate on one “big” project by taking care of all the other little projects.

Right now I’m procrastinating studying for a professional exam, as well as fixing up a web page, and making a bog post or two.
