It has the boing-yoing-yoing sound effect, followed by a eerie voice that says, "HELLOOOO!!!" ACK! We call it the "Silence of the Lambs" ice cream truck; or the "Pedophile" ice cream truck. Thanks, you can call me Captain Bringdown.

I'm with redredkroovy, especially when this one ice cream truck rolls down the road- it totally creeps me out. It drove around and around a nearby school playing its music and trying to sell to all of the little children.
That music can drive you crazy if you hear it enough!

I can still hear the music from the one speaker sitting on top of the truck, with static so bad it hurt your ears. As children we always seemed able to hear that song from miles away (while mom yelling at us from the kitchen seemed to go right over our heads). We'd jump up from whatever it was we were doing (Usually I was playing with Hot Wheels or action figures. This was before computers and video games and we only had 3 TV stations), and beg mom or dad (whichever was closest) for a quarter. Run outside and strain our eyes and ears trying to see which block he was on so we could run our legs off trying to catch him. Today, I don't see as many as then. There's one guy who owns his own ice cream truck, but sadly, it turned out he was a bad guy and got put away for taking advantage of children in very nasty ways by giving them ice cream for "favors".
I miss the days when you didn't have to be afraid of strangers, at least not like you do today. When an adult (any adult) saw you doing something you shouldn't be doing, they would say something to you and you would listen and do what they said, knowing they would find your parents or where you lived and speak with your parents.
I think today's society was the demise of the ice cream truck. Kids are so afraid of anyone they don't know, trained to automatically label any adult that speaks with them as a bad person. Not to mention most kids today are spending so much time playing thier video games and watching the 20 or so cartoon channels, that they do not even hear anything outside thier rooms, much less what's going on outside.

Ahhh..memories. During the winter months their shipped off to various places to receive maintenence.
This neighborhood I live in now doesn't often see an ice cream truck rumble by (this area is more of a commercial zone than a residential one, and we've got a Baskin Robins one block away, so they only drive by during the really crappy days), but other, more suburban parts of Staten Island see them on an almost daily basis.

About 2 miles from where I live is where the Lickity Split fleet of ice cream trucks are parked, and I mean fleet: there's about 20 trucks parked there at night. Rightfully so, Fresno summer is killer, meanwhile he rides in his little ice/music box.
Ironically (or not) he never goes around selling ice cream around this neighborhood. =(

Down the street from my house the Ice Cream man lives, his regular ride is the big Ice Cream truck with the music.
