I Can Cry If I Want To

New Office beta to launch next week – and not one single person from Microsoft has offered to show it to me. Not one. Perhaps it's because I think that Outlook is headed down the toilet? Perhaps it's because not one of them has bothered to show me what's happening with the next version of Windows? Perhaps it's because they just don't understand what I do for a living? Perhaps it's because… you fill in the blank.

I think it's because they are scared of the almighty power of the Gnome. Ah, the power of Gnome.

They afraid you're going to proclaim that you've found a way to run it on you $799 Lindows laptop…

But Outlook *is* headed down the toilet! I mean, I've been using the primitive Netscape Messenger for YEARS and it's kept me safe from … oh, I dunno, viruses that automatically run vbscripts and worms that cull your address book… :P

I think it is because they know it is going to be a huge memory sucking waste of resources, and they were hoping to save you some time in finding that out?

Perhaps it's because they know you will find it's pitfalls and it's security holes and thus give them a bad name? Wait, it can't be that, everyone already knows their software is full of problems and security holes. ;)

I even tried to sign up for the beta program a while back and got a bunch of ASP errors back for my trouble… they really don't want it in the hands of people, I guess. Or perhaps it IS just us… go figure. I've always been a fan of Office stuff, save for the virus revolution that they call Outlook. If only there was another Exchange front end out there…

or perhaps it is because you are a fucking short retarded gnome with a little penis.

whoops, didn't really mean to say that chris.

SUCK …….< That's what I filled into the Blank. I'm almost Microshaft free…..I only use it for gaming now. The rest is on my iBook.

They are afraid of me, huh or because I'm to good for them

They found out about that iMac of yours. Now you're personna non grata in Redmond. Well, there's worse things you could be.

I've actually been using Beta 1 of Office 11.. and I must say that speaking from a corporate point of view, Outlook 11 has a lot of nice things. The ability to view all messages in plain text is nice (it does allow you to switch to the original format after you open the message), the fact it blocks external content links is a nice security/anti-spam feature, and of course the (finally!) arrival of a much improved online/offline cached mode just rocks when Outlook is used in a corporate/Exchange Server setting.

Hi Chris – same here. :) They're afraid I suppose. Though I actually hear OL11 is nice.
Keep up the good work. Hope the book is going well.
