Actually, there's an article on this somewhere… people tend to treat people on TV as their own friends…
It's pretty devastating when you know the real truth – just because they make you laugh doesn't mean they know you, or care for you, or want to know you (well, maybe they'd like to in the begining… until you start sending them crap email…) It's the sad truth but it's something many of us have to learn…

My son has internet service on his cell phone. I've had this running argument with him since he is always using it to instant message his buddies. They conduct entire conversations this way. I ask him, “why don't you just call him and talk to him? Isn't like you and I are sitting next to each other and instead of talking we just keep passing a note pad back and forth?” He just looks at me like I'm nuts. I guess it's the new generation gap.

Usually, people don't understand what “away” means or “busy” They pratically have a one way conversation with themselves. Even when your really away from the computer. It's just much easier to be on invisble at all times. Like on ICQ.

I know exactly what you mean Chris! I have mine set to “busy” and I still get bombarded with “hi!”, “how are you?”, “what ya doing?” all the time. In fact, darn it, I just got IMed with “hi!” just now! Argh! I've started going invisible myself because people ignore the busy signal. Looks like it's time to go invisible again.

I was under the impression that he meant that *I* can't ask him what he had for dinner. Your being a friend of the family and all…you get special treatment (like helping G pack, for example!) It's the psycho fans he's talking to. =) You used to be one of those, until you stayed with them. That makes you a “regular person” now. Sell-out. (j/k, I hope everyone knows. Cheyenne rocks.) LOL…I know exactly how you feel Chris…… I usually have to sign into my chat messenger accounts in invisible mode in order to keep a dozen of IM's from popping up from friends and family. Probably nothing like your situation of Fans trying to contact you. The “Ignore” button is a great invention. Somedays I wish it existed outside the internet world.
