Hydrogen Generating Car – Green Christmas Gift Idea #4
Green Christmas Gift Idea #4: The Hydrogen Generating Car only $79.95 at Discovery Channel Store

Okay I know what you’re thinking and don’t worry, the risk of creating Hindenburg-type flames in your house are pretty small. The Hydrogen Generating Car contains a fuel cell and runs on hydrogen gas, one of the contenders for the fuel of the future (personally I prefer electric cars/hybrids). It also demonstrates the conundrum of building a hydrogen economy, as the gas is a fuel but not an energy source. You have to make it first. The Hydrocar’s fuel cell splits water into hydrogen and oxygen to create its own fuel. To power that reaction, the kit comes with a solar panel, but you need direct sunlight to make it work. The fallback is regular alkaline batteries. The kit requires some assembly and is for ages age 12 and up (under adult supervision of course).

Looks very cool. I have heard that these hydrogen fuel cells are going to be put into cars. The only exhaust they are soposed to give off is clean water.

How is it a hydrogen “generating” car if it burns and uses hydrogen as fuel?

It’s a hydrogen generating car because it actually splits the water into both hydrogen and oxygen before it uses it as a fuel.

It’s a hydrogen generating car because it gnerates the hydrogen that it uses for combustion. I’m assuming it generates the hydragen through electrolosys.

“… the gas is a fuel but not an energy source.” Give that man a cigar! Ethanol and Hydrogen are two of the biggest scams being foisted on the world today for common transportation. Neither one is cheap or effective when compared to the other forms we have, and both will do more damage than less. Merry Christmas and a Bountiful New Year to all.

The main reason Hydrogen & Ethanol are expensive is the fact that they both must be manufactured.(or processed). However they BOTH burn cleaner…thus protecting the environment..- Even better is Eco-Diesel, which burns cleaner and gets much better mileage per gallon, Granted this requires a diesel engine to begin with.

Wait, so this is some toy car that generates hydrogen or something? Maybe I just need to see something like this in person or something.
