I’ve downloaded a ringtone from iTunes and when I selected it for my ringtone it fails to ring….it only vibrates. To make sure the phone wasn’t faulty I then put my original ringtone back on and had no problems. Can anyboby help?????

How do change the extension from .m4a to .m4r ….??? I can’t seem to find it. help please.

To find the file extension go to your control panel and find folder options (I had to type it in search) Click show hidden folders and UNCHECK hide file extensions. Works like a charm after that!!! Then just rename file.

So I got the 30 sec song to my “Sample Music” folder. But…can ANYONE tell me how to change the .m4a to .m4r??? PLEASE!!! I’m Desperate! LOL

Works great.Just play it in windows explorer after you changed the extension and it will load into ring tones folder. Many thanx

This is awesome. There was no reason for iphone to have this type of restriction so this workaround is great. Follow Darren’s steps and you will be there.

i’m on a mac and was they weren’t importing into ringtones until i discovered I was not deleting them from itunes first.

here’s what worked for me, with the step i was missing highlighted

-Choose a song that you want
-Click control+I to get the info of that song
-Click Options, put the time you want to start and stop the song, it can’t be longer than 30 second. Then click OK
-Play the song to see if it starts and stops where you want. If not make some adjustment
-Click Advanced, and Create AAC Version
-Open Finder, go to iTune Library, search for the song you have cut short.
-Change its file extension from .m4a to .m4r, click Use .m4r on a pop up window
-Drag it to Desktop,

**DELETE THE ONE IN YOUR ITUNES LIBRARY**

-Import the one from Desktop
-Tadaaaaa…. now it will show up in your ringtone folder in iTune. And is ready to Sync to your iPhone

yes the last step DO NOT work..It doesnt automatically go into ringtone…SO u will hav to move it to an outside itune file ie, music folder in my document or sumthing like that. then u will see it in ‘.m4a’ file (ie. bring me to life.m4a), now u have to rename it to “.m4r”(ie. bring me to life.m4r). THEN drag that ringtone that u have converted to “.m4r” to ‘ringtone’ in itune again. PS: you should delete the old file in itune before u re-import the new fil into it (the new one is “.m4r”)

DONE!!!
