How to Make Free Phone Calls
http://live.pirillo.com/ – VoIP – Voice over IP – allows you to use your computer in order to make phone calls, either from computer to phone or computer to computer.
How can you get free phone calls? Use any popular instant messenger application that supports voice, such as Skype or Google Talk. This lets you use voice as a communication medium rather than text.
If you want to make free phone calls to a landline, there probably isn’t a service out there that offers it 100% free of charge; however, there are a lot of VoIP providers that provide very low rates.
Yahoo! Messenger dials out at 1 cent per minute, in the US. Gizmo also has very similar, competitive rates.
Skype has SkypeOut, which you can subscribe to for a full year for only $30.
JahJah also offers a similar service, which acts as in intermediary between the two phone numbers.
There are a ton of options out there, which one do you recommend?

I use Skype and am happy with it, I have several new friends in other parts of the world now and one new business contact. My only negative with Skype-call in, is that the nearest calling in number for my area is long distance from my location. This is not a problem for Skype call-out.

hey Chris ! I can tell that “ICALL” is connecting your computer to any land phone anywhere in US and Canada for FREE.The only problem with it , is that they claim that you can send and receive calls and also have free voicemail ,they even provide you with your own phone # for receiving , but for some reason you can’t “receive or use the voicemail ” I even try to get ICALL support to help me with it , but they never got back to me. Anyway , I like it because my family is 2500 miles away and it’s not costing me a cent or my family . Like they say , Don’t call me I’ll call you !
Ps: I like your setup

I remember when it totally free. Telcos begged/forced/blackmailed/extorted congress to shut it down. I’ve never seen a legislative body work so fast in all my life. Why can’t they do that all the time?

Iwas having a slight delay with Skype. I opened the port for it on my router and have had crystal clear calls since then. If there is any delay, I do not notice it at all now. In fact, some of the calls with Skype are clearer than the POTS calls.

One warning about the SkypeOut unlimited calling for $30 for a year. First, it’s only *to* phones in the U.S. and Canada. And second, it’s only *from* IP addresses in the U.S. and Canada. I had bought three months worth of this service (for eight or nine bucks) for my son to use while he is in New Zealand in a study abroad program. During a phone call today we were abruptly cut off. After looking at the FAQs on Skype, we discovered that since he’s in New Zealand, the unlimited calling offer doesn’t apply. I wish that would have been more clear when we signed up.

Well iCall was great and the fact that it was free was awesome! But now unfortunately just like Skype they are now charging for unlimited free calls.. Calls to the US and Canada are now limited to only 20 minutes.. after that you just get disconnected, I loved iCall at first but now I will drop it as I did Skype.. Sad when people have to charge for something that should be free.. Money hungry people..

I wonder why when you try to find something like free phone calls from your macbook it isnt that simple. You get sent to websites that are trying to sell you something completly unrelated to what your trying to do. This happens almost everytime. I know people are trying to sell things, but it never gives you what they say. Its confusing and is on the edge of fraud.
