How to Make Espresso at Home

Just before I left for France the other day, I decided to make myself a cup of Espresso. One of the sponsors of the LeWeb conference I spoke at was Nespresso, and they sent a unit to all of us as a gift! So, I decided to try it out, and let all of you know what I think… since it really does make an excellent cup of espresso!
The genius thing about the Nespresso is that it’s easy to use, and there’s no mess involved. You fill up the container at the back, press a button, and out comes the espresso. I probably already drank more than I should, but who cares?! I like it!
I also have a container that allows me to server cold or warm milk, to allow me to change up how I want to serve the drinks. Once I finished making my espresso, it was a very simple matter to clean the Nespresso machine. Simply pull the container out, and clean it off. It pops right back into place very quickly.
You can buy different espresso flavors, of course. You can join a club and receive even more options than what the standard machine comes with.
I’m very happy with this machine. It’s easy to use and to clean… and it tastes great. The Nespresso is now my best friend. Thank you for the gift that is going to keep on giving in my house!

I had a Nespresso for a while, but then I sold it. The machine was great, worked great, and made a great cup of espresso. But the capsules to buy for it were WAY too expensive! $0.60 each! (That’s the same as getting an extra shot at Starbucks!) And you can only buy them from Nespresso corp; no third party makers of the capsules.
In contrast, when making espresso from loose coffee purchased at Starbucks, it’s about $0.15 a shot (less if you buy supermarket coffee).
So I just couldn’t afford to make coffee with it, tho the coffee was great, and it was very easy to use.
I got a DeLonghi pump-powered espresso machine (19 psi), and I love it. A little more work than the Nespresso, but at least I can afford it. :-)

Love that idea for a ESpresso machine. My favorite method for making coffee is the French Press (thanks to you). Now you’ve ruined all other coffee for me!

So this is what plug-o-la looks like on a blog. Interesting. Is this the kind of thing the FTC is trying to regulate? Not trying to start a fight…I really do find it interesting.

We too have a Nespresso machine and are very pleased with it. The exclusive, non competitive capsule supply is a rip off. In August 09 when we bought the machine in New Zealand, they were 69c each. They have recently gone up to 95c each – a whopping 36% increase in only 4 months. The company says it is because of importing costs. The most annoying thing is they constantly promote a cash back offer to get more people to buy the machines and those poor mugs who have been sucked in are financing that.
