They use the location in your twitter profile. Yours is set correctly while Kat’s is set to Crawfordsville, IN . ;-)

IP auto-detect things are terrible, especially for UK DSL users.

I am about 300 miles away from London, yet it insists on detecting me there!

Another good application for finding Twitter users nearby is TwellowHood (http://www.twellow.com/twellowhood). It has a world map that you click on North America for me, then state, then a list of cities in that state pop up. Click your city and you can see users in the city sorted with the user with the most followers first. Give it a try, allowed me to connect with most Twitter users in Lexington! I found many twitter, near by my location. The post was knowledgeable but more than that the video, I love that much anything.

Now this looks handy and would be a great site to use at SXSW, Joomla Day! in Las Vegas, Barcamps, WordCamps, tweetups, and anything where I need to travel.

it’s not even close to ip location… its simply sends a query to search.twitter.com with the location and the distance and walla… twitter’s from around the location you wrote.

nothing fancy about that… but… cool UI… liked it a lot
