How to Locate Local Twitter Tweeters

Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed

I am sure there are people in the city I live in who are tweeting right now, but there’s not many easy ways to discover them. Do you know who is near you and is on Twitter? Do you know how to find them?

Nearby Tweets helps you find people in your local area who are on Twitter. I’m not sure how they determine your location, but I have a feeling it’s done via your IP address, and the information your ISP reports. My location was reported as Seattle, which is right. Kat’s was reported as Indianapolis – a city she lives 40 miles from. So it’s not perfect, but it is dang close!

If you aren’t happy with the location that Nearby Tweets gives you, you can change your preferences to search by a different location or keyword. Even if the site correctly reports your location, why not change things up and look at your hometown? Find people you went to high school or college with on Twitter and reconnect!

You may just be surprised at who you will find on Twitter from your neighborhood or hometown. More and more people are starting to join Twitter every day. Make sure you can find them all!

it’s not even close to ip location… its simply sends a query to search.twitter.com with the location and the distance and walla… twitter’s from around the location you wrote.

nothing fancy about that… but… cool UI… liked it a lot

Chris,

Now this looks handy and would be a great site to use at SXSW, Joomla Day! in Las Vegas, Barcamps, WordCamps, tweetups, and anything where I need to travel.

Of course, it is good to connect with people right in your own city too!

I found many twitter, near by my location. The post was knowledgeable but more than that the video, I love that much anything.
Nice and good video about the tweets location.

Uhh, Deviantart ? http://www.deviantart.com . It has been around for years now and is basically precisely what you describe artician as.

thanks so much…i found a lot tweeters from my city ;)

Hey, what an excellent tool. I wanted to find a way to make contact with business people within my location and you have come up with the answer.

Thank you so much.

Another good application for finding Twitter users nearby is TwellowHood (http://www.twellow.com/twellowhood). It has a world map that you click on North America for me, then state, then a list of cities in that state pop up. Click your city and you can see users in the city sorted with the user with the most followers first. Give it a try, allowed me to connect with most Twitter users in Lexington! You can find me on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/Lutherand

IP auto-detect things are terrible, especially for UK DSL users.

I am about 300 miles away from London, yet it insists on detecting me there!

Very useful site. It even suggested some sport sites. I chose to follow Espn and Foxsports.

They use the location in your twitter profile. Yours is set correctly while Kat’s is set to Crawfordsville, IN . ;-)

I use a tool called twitstamp that lets you make a dynamic image of your recent tweets. The website is at http://twitstamp.com
