How to Free Memory on the iPhone

Even though we know that Apple doesn’t currently let you run any application in the background. Sometimes, bits of the application will stay in the background upon exiting it, and it hogs up your resources. You can now use an App to help free up your memory!
The iPhone only comes with 128MB of runtime memory. This has nothing to do with the actual storage memory of 8GB and higher. Some applications that come with the iPhone will continue to run in the background even once you close them, such as the Phone and Mail applications, and even Safari! Over time, these Apps will bog down your iPhone (or iPod Touch), making it impossible to effectively open any further Apps.
Using Free Memory can solve this problem. you can see how much runtime memory is currently available for applications. You can also view all the currently running applications or system processes. By simply touching the “Free Memory” button, the App will clean up 20MB of your memory for you. If you already have over 20MB available, the App won’t even do anything.
I know your iPhone may not feel sluggish to you. But if you’re going to play a game or something, why not clear some memory out? I’m sure you’ve had Apps crash when you tried to open them in the past. I’d be willing to bet that it was because you didn’t have enough memory available to run it! Why Apple didn’t include something like this with the iPhone firmware natively is beyond me!

That app is sooo stupid. It doesn’t even free up the full amount of memory that you can manually do through MobileTerminal and SBsettings.

While this is a good app for any iPhone/iPod Touch owner to have, it is actually possible to completely kill a process by holding down the home button for 6-8 seconds, until the application closes; the problem is that this is painfully slow and it only works on one application at a time. There really should be a quick “clear memory” button by default, and I personally think that having to hold down the home button for 6-8 seconds each time you want to close out a program is twice as long as it should be. But hey, the option is there. Maybe Apple will revise this functionality in a later release. In the meantime, hooray for apps like this!

This app is helpful to those that haven’t jailbroken their phones. I’d like to hear exctly how you can clear up 20MB of memory leaks from aleady-uit using SBsettings and Mobile Terminal – I’m experienced with both and don’t know of a way to do what this app does.
I don’t think Apple should have included a utility like this with that phone – I think they should have built an adequate amount of RAM into the phone to begin with, so we wouldn’t need an app like this!

Very simple but very useful app. Now people won’t have to restart there iphones/touch each time they want to play a game or use any other memory hungry app.

Will this work to clear email from memory? Let me explain… I have a new girlfriend who sometimes uses my iPhone. Here is the problem, I long ago deleted an ex from my email directory BUT when you go to send an email and the keyboard pulls up, you you type in the letter M the ex’s email still pops up as an option… how do I get this to go away?

In my opinion… If a boyfriend is going to go through his girlfriends iphone and doesn’t know how to use it. Instead of posting a dishonest question on here he should just ask her if she knows how to fix her phone for him
