I’ve used Belarc Advisor several times. It does a good job of reporting what hardware and software you have on your system, and it’s free.

There is a free program called the Belarc Advisor that you can download and install on your computer to give you the details of both hardware and software. It’s free for personal use and the program generates a report that opens in your browser. You should be able to find it at http://www.belarc.com.
Keep up the good work, Chris.

SIW is a killer app, as is Advanced Remote Info (ARI).
Both are free. Google is your friend.
Belarc is good, but the other two work more locally.
It’s amazing what you’ll find in open source/free apps.
Check places like majorgeeks.com, nonags.com, or search for `top 46′.

I recommend Belarc Advisor. I’ve been using it since the mid or late 90’s. One of its greatest benefits is that, for most programs, it reports passwords and other essential information. Therefore, I run Belarc after every major change to my system(s) and print the results, just in case. Since it works totally on your machine I don’t worry about negative consequences, nor have I suffered any (that I know of).
Also, since Belarc works only with Windows, it tracks and reports updates from Redmond; a useful feature.
Belarc is a handy, useful free tool.
