During our GoToMeeting last week, EvilHomer decided to show us how to access a hidden music file within Windows XP. Let’s follow along, and see what we discover!
First, make sure your hidden files and folders are set to show. To do this:
- Click “My Computer” to open an Explorer window
- Select Tools menu, and click on Folder Options
- Click the View tab
- Under the Hidden Files and Folders heading, select “Show hidden files and folders”
- Uncheck the “hide protected operating systems files” options
- Uncheck the “Hide file extensions for known file types” box
- Click “yes” to confirm, then click “ok”
Ok, now that we’ve done that, let’s find that music!
- Click again on My Computer to open the Explorer window
- Open the Windows folder
- Open the System32 folder
- Open the OOBE (Out of Box Experience) folder
- Open the Images folder
- Locate and open in your media player the file Title
Ah-hah! That’s the sound you hear when you first set up Windows XP… which may have been just the other day?
