During our GoToMeeting last week, EvilHomer decided to show us how to access a hidden music file within Windows XP. Let’s follow along, and see what we discover!

First, make sure your hidden files and folders are set to show. To do this:

  • Click “My Computer” to open an Explorer window
  • Select Tools menu, and click on Folder Options
  • Click the View tab
  • Under the Hidden Files and Folders heading, select “Show hidden files and folders”
  • Uncheck the “hide protected operating systems files” options
  • Uncheck the “Hide file extensions for known file types” box
  • Click “yes” to confirm, then click “ok”

Ok, now that we’ve done that, let’s find that music!

  • Click again on My Computer to open the Explorer window
  • Open the Windows folder
  • Open the System32 folder
  • Open the OOBE (Out of Box Experience) folder
  • Open the Images folder
  • Locate and open in your media player the file Title

Ah-hah! That’s the sound you hear when you first set up Windows XP… which may have been just the other day?

It actually IS hidden because you have to search though files you can’t acess to unless you edit that so you can.

It’s a good tip but for some reason I could already access that song through Windows Media player guess if you set it to search your entire system it will find it…

how do you get the leapord theme???

i figured … i hate dl things

This is not an easter egg.
The music must be there for it to be able to play when you first install windows xp.
Its not there as a secret, so you realy need to spend more time with your computer.

this suces dude its not clear what files to go on..

wow coll thnks man ur awesome im gona go and do that

found it and the music is pretty chill

music kicks ass ^^ nice vid

OOOBEEEE

Almost sounds like something else…heh heh

I’ve always wonder where the music is at.

Thanks for blogging it!

Or instead of going to all that trouble, just click start on your main screen and then run and type in oobe. it’s that easy….

(mankyman is a PERV…that’s what i meant, my computer is screwed up…:S)

me too…they make your computer slower…

HEY IT”S The Song From when You First install windows XP on your Computer….NICE

You can also access this music, by opening up a search window, searching for music, by the name of “title”. You have to use advanced search options, to let it find system files. This is how I found this music the first time.

Nice, that tip saved me a lot of time and effort.
