" If you discover that your ending date happens to be the release date of
Starcraft 2, postpone your ending date so you can indulge instead of
potentially becoming an addict again."

We'll agree to disagree on this suggestion. Just because a highly anticipated video game is coming up, doesn't mean that one simply postpone the process of quitting. Who's to say that person won't continue to play Starcraft 2 for months to come out of sheer enjoyment of a satisfying game.

Secondly, giving advice on the internet is one of the most inappropriate measures people are indulging in left/right/center. There are reasons doctors, sociologists, psychologists/psychiatrists exist; these people are trained to help others cope with a wide variety of problems including addiction. We really don't need any more amateur advice.

If your objective is to make ad dollars by racking up the number of hits your website [blog...another modern day colossal waste of time] achieves, then that is indeed ill intentioned.

Acceptance is the most important of all. Without doing it, the "addict" wouldn't even think of changing his ways. Computer game addiction isn't as bad as media tells it is.

The media would always broadcast negative stuff about it because that is what interests people.

You can find a lot of studies dispelling negative effects and having positive effects that's incomparable to anything else.

The best way to help an addict is to know why he's addicted to a game. What do I mean? Understand the person by playing HIS video game.

I was also addicted one year ago.It was something horrible, after I came back from school, the only thing I wanted to do was to play a goddamn Uncharted 2 (online) and the only thing I was thinking about was how to get some achievement (Trophy) or how to get a higher level in game. Now I still have a PS3 in my room, BUT for some reason I've just stopped playing it for a while, I've met alot of new people, I've started discovering a world for once again. My life has changed and I hope it won't turn back again :)

Greetings,
Maciek 15yrs, Poland.
