Ever have one of those days? We all have. Even when we have blessings aplenty that we could and should be counting, sometimes some horrible feeling permeates the psyche and there’s no soothing to be found. Your nerves are worked, and the world not only gets your goat, but it turns out that there’s a whole herd of goats to be gotten.
You can call this icky feeling whatever you like, but it seems to be traditional in this post-Seuss world at this time of year to call it The Grinch (or The Scrooge if your sympathies tend more toward a Dickensian mindset). Even though you know that there are people all over the world who have it way worse than you and you’re usually able to shake away the gloom by reminding yourself of this fact alone, there are days when this Grinch has a grip that’s just too strong.
I’m lucky that I have Diana’s support at times like these; I admit that I’m probably not a lot of fun to be around during these episodes. Heck, I don’t even want to hang out with me when the grinning Grinch is in control! I know that this feeling will pass, but in the middle of it, it’s hard to see a light at the end of the tunnel.
But we’ll get there. We’ll get there…
For now, let’s have some Macallan in the egg nog and cross our fingers! And while I don’t condone finding solace in whisky (or even whiskey) on a regular basis, I think I’m feeling better already.
