How Many Games are Available for OS X?

At Macworld, there were a few game vendors on the floor. One of those people was Ned, with EVE Online. Ned is a PR person, but he also does some game design, as well as copy writing. He says that EVE is a great place to work, because all of the employees are encouraged to wear several hats. They can dabble in several different projects and areas, and no two days at work are alike. What a great way to be! You’d never be bored with the “grind”.

I asked Ned if it was true that there are no games for Mac OS X. He couldn’t help but laugh, and told me that that is so completely false of a statement. They’ve been out for Mac for more than a year now, and the game is doing very well. They have a new beta version, and it’s getting a lot of excited buzz.

EVE is a massive multiplayer online game (MMOG) set in a science-fiction based, persistent world. Players take the role of spaceship pilots seeking fame, fortune, and adventure in a huge, complex, exciting, and sometimes hostile galaxy.

In a nutshell, EVE can be described as an alternate reality, similar in many ways to virtual reality as depicted in, for example, the film “The Matrix.” The only difference between the Matrix and EVE is that instead of accessing the world through a neural jack, it is accessed through the Internet and participants interact with it via a computer.

Ned himself is a gamer. He loves playing EVE, Mario Kart, and COD 4. He states that the company is working on some new gaming ideas, but nothing that he’s allowed to talk about at this point. Make sure you stay tuned to find out what they have in store for you!

Yeah it’s not easy to find games for OSX, but last year I found World of Goo for Mac. By far one of the best games I played last year by far, It won Indie game of the year too. best part is that it’s only 80 something MB. If there ever was an essential game for mac, I’d say this one is it.

Now we need other game developers to follow the lead of these brave developers. If the future of Mac gaming is going to survive, then the Macintosh platform also needs to have exclusive games that are not available to other systems. Only then will the masses be drawn to gaming on the Mac.

EVE online is a awsome game, I played it in on linux, it uses cedaga to play it, but besides that it was really cool, Im glad they put it out on Mac it will just add more people to the war and it will make the game all the more fun. If you dont know what the war is the game has a war going on between 4 races thats the story of the game.

Well, there is always the 2 best blizzard games too. Starcraft and the Diablo series. If gaming was popular on Mac like it is on the Windows, I would have switched. However since most of the games I like are only for Windows, I’m gonna have to stick with Windows. I wonder if the Orange Box is available for Mac.

I’m not a huge gamer, the only games I play are Mario Kart on the 64 or Crash Bandicoot on the LEGO playstation. My recent Mac gaming experience was not good. I blame EA for making Spore suck on mac. It’s faulty, and does not play… I did a blog post about it, it frusterated me so much.

There are plenty of games out for OS X, enough to keep a gamer satisfied at least. I know there is not as many in comparison to Windows Machines, but does it matter? Mac users have boot camp anyway. Once I finish my degree in software engineering I would really like to step up and develop for Macs.
