Overview thest top 10 cool laptop cooling laptop stands at ePathChina,we will find using a laptop is generally not as ergonomic as operating a desktop computer. People often suffer from neck and back strain when using laptops, because they are seated in a position that does not promote good posture and is not conducive to long periods of typing. For these reasons, many people opt to use laptop stands, which significantly improve user comfort. The following steps will instruct you on how to build a laptop stand at home.

ac adapter for usb is a must! usb goes to power 500mAmps. I connect a lot of devices. If my usbs power all ports with 500mAmps, I get 2 Amps and thats a lot of heat dissipating into my laptop. Powering usbs externally also keeps my laptop cooler, although it doesnt look 'cool'. USB ports do have protection to shutdown over 500mAmps, but it get to be a lot of amps, and amps = heat.

So, by ac adapters, its safer for your laptop. Also I just got the latest release from logitech with 1 fan, powered by usb!! its noisy even though they say that the dBs are very low. its noisy enough to disturb me, and I live in a computer room. its very stylish though.

cheers

ps: for my other laptop I use -as a raiser-, two (1 on each leg) MC68020RC12E /OE30G ICs. it works.

Why not just turn your fan up??

Thats what I do on my Macbook Pro.

Cools it down far more than any laptop cooler - less hassle to.

My acer laptop gets hot very quickly. I use it mostly for the MS Streets and Trips program while I'm driving every day and I have to put a 12V auto fan blowing on the computer at all times or it will overheat. God forbid I get a really hot day or drive the convertible! The sun beating down would probably fry it.

I have a Targus that I got with my Asus notebook. Works fine and the fan is quiet. The problem was I had trouble using the small keyboard and the built-in Touchpad for the type of work I do.

To solve the Touchpad issue I carry a Logitech TrackMan Wheel (Thumb ball). Then I tried the Alto to get a full size keyboard. I really like it and along with a 22" wide screen monitor it is like having a docking station for use at home.

Still use the Targus when on the road because it fits in my notebook backpack while the Alto does not.

I also use a Targus with USB ports, although the ports are in the back and don't get used very often. I bought mine for a decent price on eBay; it always seems to keep my Alienware Area 51 m5750 cool and the fan noise isn't too bad. I've seen what happens when a laptop/notebook overheats, and it was not a fun experience. Best wishes from Iowa, Kevin

I looked into the pads with fans and they typically are powered via your USB ports. Looking at opinions of users, some complained that the pads burned up their USB ports. So, I was looking for a passive cooling pad and ran across a great new product from iXoft that uses some kind of space age material that wicks the heat away. It is called a Thermaltake pad.

I picked up 2 of them from circuitcity.com and both my laptops do run cooler as the fans now run at slower speeds or kick off and on regularly instead of blasting away at full tilt. These pads also work well if you want to sit the laptop on your lap and don't want it to burn your lap.

They come in several colors and are easy to throw into your laptop bag to take on the road. No power to worry about, either. When they are cold, they are kind of stiff, but still flexible. When your laptop is sitting on the pad and the pad is sucking away the heat, the hot spots from your laptop turn the material inside the pad soft as it sucks away the heat. So, the pad gets softer and more flexible the more it is used.

However it works, it does the job for me.

I really like the Targus cooler, but I'm not a huge laptop user. My mother bought an angled stand about 4 years ago, that had excellent laptop airflow circulation.

I've been looking at the targus for a while, but I'm not a huge laptop user, and my Dell doesn't overheat THAT much. Although I would like to say that my mother bought a laptop stand in England about 6 years ago, that had very nice airflow.
