How Do You Buy Your Music Online?

There are a plethora of ways to purchase music these days, and many of those are found online. From iTunes to Rhapsody, more people are paying for and downloading their music right in their own homes. I personally don’t use iTunes. I’m more of a Rhapsody fan. I asked some others where they get their music from, and the answers were quite varied.

I use Amazon MP3 for the majority of my music purchases, never a physical retail location, and sometimes iTunes. I used to use iTunes for all of my online music, but the DRM was too much for me to handle. I still use iTunes when I’m downstairs and I just want to download a quick song from my iPhone, but more and more I’ve been buying DRM-free tracks.

well i’m mostly a fan of buying cd’s, but for online i’ll get it from last.fm, which goes through amazon

I’m still going the old route. I buy used CDs through Amazon marketplace, usually for around $5 or less (shipping bumps them back up to $8 or $9). Then I rip them and add them to iTunes myself. It’s not instantaneous, but I don’t have to worry about DRM or losing my music if my PC dies. I have a pretty big music collection, but I don’t have all the digital files backed up. Because 1) technically my iPod can act as an offline backup and 2) I need my full backup solution for image files - photography is my main hobby.

Directly from the bands at shows or
by emailing them on myspace and sending payment through their PayPal accounts.
This works great for International bands on small labels not distributed here yet.
When all else fails, eMusic, Amazon, or iTunes

I’m personally a big fan of iTunes. It’s nice that I can easily buy music and load it on my iPod with only having to use iTunes but I usually tend to buy the CD if it is a band I really like. I also love the free things they have on iTunes.

You call those answers?

Yeah, real think tank you got there, Chris.

I use itunes to get my music. I don’t buy much so it works out quite well for me. I go out and buy gift cards for myself so that I can use the money when I actually want a piece of music. This way I don’t have anything charged to my credit card and don’t have to worry about going over the limit.

Personally, I use iTunes to buy my music because its easy, plus it works well with my iPhone.

I don’t buy music on the Internet.

If I really want the real thing, I go to my favourite music store. But the most of the time, I just use LimeWire to download my music.

Well, i buy my music online via Credit card, or if i have some saved pocket money, i just go out and buy 1 :) and i feel like i got it free :D idk.

I personally use iTunes it is the easiest and best way I think! It also is through Apple so you know it’ll be good! I spent about $250 last month though is the problem! Darn Apps Store!

Normally, to acquire music online, I use my Napster to Go subscription. Sometimes if the songs I listen to are good enough, I purchase the MP3s of the songs through the Napster service, since they have the largest catalogue of music for purchase in DRM free formats for an online store. However, most of the music that I actually purchase (music that is not acquired through a subscription; music that does not have an expiry date), I usually just purchase at CD shops. I also sometimes download and listen to some independent music online for free.

I buy my music on itunes…it sucks that it has DRM’s but it really does not affect me.

iTunes for the kids as they’re into iPods.

I usually buy my music off amazon since its in mp3 format or i go to the store and buy the album and rip it to my computer. It depends on how i pay for it if i buy it on line i use a credit card but if i buy the album in the store i usually use cash.

I have a music subscription with the Zune Marketplace.
I am not to sure if it is considered buying music.
Or i still buy CD’s from time to time if i really liked the album.

Most of the time I get my music from iTunes. I know most of the stuff on there is DRMed but I don’t really feel locked down. I’m a apple guy, I use an iPhone and have an iPod, and those two are the primary ways I listen to my music. I guess iTunes works if you live in the apple world.

iTunes & Rhapsody…

Hello,

I primarily buy CDs from Amazon.Com and eBay. I have also purchased some from CDBaby.

Anymore, I’ve been using Amazon for my wonderful mpeg-layer-3 music. No DRMs = awesome. Although I just recently recently found djdownload.com has some obscure stuff (trance, etc), and all at 320kbps… haven’t actually tried it yet though. I refuse to use itunes for downloads. :)

It’s important to be able to listen to music online as well as to buy. At We7 we offer our users all the music they want to listen to and share for free via their playlists, plus the option to buy what they really love from major and indie labels.

You talked about eMusic when it first came out years ago. Because I’m not a slave to new music, instead am interested in jazz and other interesting forms, I get all I can personally consume from emusic. Because I’m a music teacher, I’m forced to stay in the loop so wil use Amazon and iTunes. But as with many peeps here, the iTunes DRM is cumbersome.

I prefer iTunes just because I don’t listen to music every day, but it is nice to have it there if you want it.
