Honorary North Carolinian

After trying to set something up for everyone in NC, I was told that the location was too remote (at least, as far as our accomodations are concerned). I hate keeping every North Carolinian in the dark with this, but Ponzi wants to coordinate any kind of gathering. She asked me the other night if I wanted her to do it, and since I don't know the territory (especially after screwing up the first intended blogger meetup), I totally need her to figure it out. On one of these days, we're planning on visiting the Biltmore estate; I believe that evening, she'd want to do something (which would be in Asheville). Again, I'm yeilding all control of this to her – I'm just along for the ride at this point. We're sitting at the airport, waiting to board our plane to Charlotte – then spending all week at the world-famous Gastonia Hampton Inn (where the towels are oh-so-fluffy, and you can eat right out of the ash trays if you wanna – it's okay, they're clean). Better start practicing my southern accent, y'all.

Not to take anything away from Ponzi, but I know a great locally owned coffee shop here in my hometown – free wifi and all. Best of all, Shelby/Boiling Springs is right off Hwy 74 which connects I-85 from Gastonia to I-26 into Asheville. Just throwing that out there as an idea…

Aw, shucks. I'd love to host you here in the Raleigh-Durham area – we'd be happy to have a special edition of the Chapel Hill Bloggers Meetup, or another Triangle Bloggers Bash (see http://blogtogether.org for all things blogging in this part of the state). I'm a long-time fan of your Chris, and would hate to miss your visit to North Carolina. Enjoy it, and hope you get to meet plenty of us while you're here.

You should host Gnomedex in Charlotte some time! Lots of geeks around in NC!

You might want to head out to Connestee Falls… It's about 30 minutes from Asheville and one of the most beautiful places to visit in NC.

Welcome to my neck of the woods Chris, and welcome back Ponzi. I sure hope y'all find a location and giving me time to get ready to hit the road. Asheville is a definite improvement for me here in Brasstown area.
I've been here since July and already got the accent Chris, so don't worry, you will fit in real soon.
I hope we can connect.

There is lots to do in the Asheville, Hendersonville area. Chimney Rock Park, Grandfather mountain, Dupont Forest, and of course the Biltmore Estate. If you go from January to March, a resident can get you half price tickets. Its a little pricey otherwise and I'm not sure its worth it.
Heres a place: Meet the Geeks Asheville: http://www.meetthegeeks.net/cms/ Its a monthly meeting at a downtown brewery.

OK, mere mentions of Dupont Forest and Lake Connestee are hitting pretty close to home. I'm going to college in Brevard, NC, and I'd bet that you would be really happy to have your wedding in Brevard. There are some great churches around here, so if you happen to be in the area, Chris and Ponzi, e-mail me! I'd be more than happy to be present at your wedding. Geeks REPRESENT!
BTW, will the traditional tossing of the bridal bouquet be upstaged by the nontraditional tossing of the groom's best computer chip for the next man to be married? JK, JK.

Chimney Rock is not too far from where I live. It's a great place to take some great photos of the mountains and just explore the many shops they have. Plus not to mention that Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, has got some national exposure in the past from a hit 80's movie being taped in Lake Lure “Dirty Dancing” and recently Lake Lure was the home of the new 2006 HGTV Dream Home. Asheville is also a great place to visit, plus they have some great restaurants to eat at as well .
