Here’s Why Social Media Stinks
On a whim, I tweeted this morning:
If everybody on Twitter #farted at the same time, would it show up in search trends? Anybody up for a stinky experiment?
A few people started the #farted trend, so I had to make it official 15 minutes later:
Well, now the trick is to get everybody on Twitter to use #farted in a tweet ASAP. Let ‘er rip, tweeps!
An hour later, we had reached escape velocity
We have smelt it and dealt it. #farted is the number 3 trend on Twitter bit.ly/farted (can we make an near-number two, number one?)
And at 4:20pm today, we reached the number one search trend on Twitter:
I just #farted for joy – it’s the number one trended topic on Twitter at the moment: bit.ly/farted (p00t!)
It only took me four tweets to get ‘er done. Thanks to everybody who farticipated on Twitter, including:

these such childish ideas, whats the point? I don’t understand how a human biological system reaction is funny. What are you people in Kindergarten or something. As you know, those two simple words “GROW UP!”
