Help Or Hinder
When Mark “AnalogX” Thompson was visiting us a few days ago, he told me about a company by the name of G4 MEDIA. I had forgotten completely about it until I saw that Wil Wheaton will be working for them. By the way, Wil: congrats! Couldn't have happened to a better blogger. They'll be launching the channel in April of 2002.
G4Â’s all-original programming will include 13 weekly series and specials that will focus on the latest information about electronic games, including “whatÂ’s hot” previews, “making of” documentaries, competitions, news, events, game tips, reviews, etc. G4Â’s core demographic is men 18-34 and teens 12-17, plus general appeal to anyone interested in electronic games.
I can't help but wonder: will this help or hinder the market penetration of TechTV? I know, most of you are sitting there thinking: “What the [bleep] is TechTV?!” You might know the station by its former, pre-Paul name: ZDTV. I've been hosting one of their shows for a few months now. In that time, I've come to respect those working in the industry. It's not as easy as it looks, folks. With any luck, the network will survive these lousy economic times. For us, ratings will begin in April – and only the strongest will survive. Better start eating me spinach, eh?
