Hawaii To Do List

Ponzi and I just returned from our cruise to Hawaii. We were fortunate to stream live from the ship, thanks to a mobile broadband connection. We wanted to share with you the things we want to make sure you remember to see or do if you ever visit Hawaii.

  • If you visit Maui, make sure you make time to eat at Mama’s Fish House. This is an amazing restraunt. I love raw fish, and theirs was excellent.
  • If you have a chance, take a helicoptor tour. It was unbelievably gorgeous, and an experience we’ll never forget.
  • We haven’t gotten to do this, but it was recommended to us… go to a Luau. My friend says the one at the Polynesian Cultural Center is fun, exciting and educational.
  • Whale watching and snorkeling with the turtles are both truly humbling, and a lot of fun. Try to do anything you can with sea life, even if it’s just watching them, like with the whales.
  • Try a “Discover Scuba” class. You pay a one-time fee, and you don’t have to buy the equipment. They teach you the basics, and you’ll get to go as deep as 40 feet with an instructor.

Germaine’s Luau in Honolulu was the greatest!!! We also went down in a submarine and went parasailing. Wanted to go diving but were flying too soon, so it wasn’t recommended.

I dare somebody to touch lava hahahaha, if you do tell me what happen to your hands.

But in the Dominican republic they a lot of good stuff to do and see, there are turtle too and even lava, if you ever go to the Dominican republic you won’t regret it.

Ponzi is beautiful, chris a dam lucky sod. Is she from there?

My wife and I went in Octber for a week – 6 days on the big island and 1.5 days on Oahu. Cost was much less since I cashed in my frequent stay points in Hilton (if you get their charge card you are automatically in the VIP club where offers like this are common) and used frequent flyer miles for one of our tickets. Also, shop around on line for rental cars, we had 1 for 6 days for undre $200 total.

The big island is much less a tourist trap (although you can find the shops if you want) and visiting a coffee plantation is worth the trip up the mountain. Thunder Mountain coffee is the place I went to (organically grown) and they offer online discounts if you sign up while your there.

Hey Chris. Hope you and Ponzi’s helicopter pilot was as good as the one we had. Lots of interesting factoids about the island. Jacks BnB was pretty cool, though I don’t know if I would want to stay there :-).

My sister got some great pics on the trip, and she appreciated your pointers. (Yes I am THAT guy ;-) ). Did you end up getting your flight video?

We did a Luau on Oahu (the Paradise Cove Luau) the night before boarding the Pride of Aloha. We didn’t do the PCC one, as we’d heard it was significantly overpriced. The one we went on was fun even though it rained during dinner (it was tropical rain though). The company gave everyone a refund because it rained, and they supplied everyone with poncho’s. Thats good service.

Now I just need to plan my next trip to the islands.

Aloha.
