Have You Ever Tasted McSpam?

So I was told that while in Honolulu, I had to eat a traditional “Local Breakfast” at the McDonald’s. Ok, so let’s do this. I can handle it, right? It won’t kill me, right?
The “Local Breakfast” includes white rice, eggs, Portuguese sausage, and Spam. You read the correctly – Spam. Honest-to-goodness… SPAM. What the heck. When in Rome…
The Spam actually tasted good, as did the rice. It is very Hawaiian tasting, with maybe a hint of Connecticut thrown in. The Portuguese sausage, well, I’m not so sure. At least now I know what it tastes like.
Thankfully, they had the normal old fruit punch to wash it all down with. I thought maybe it would taste better in Hawaii, but it’s just the same old punch as I get here in Seattle.
Have you ever eaten Spam? Where did you have it? How was it cooked? Most importantly.. did you like it?

Spam is “Spiced Ham”… Ham! All it is, is canned ham.
I’ve made Spam tacos with cilantro and goat cheese. Mmmmmmmm. :) (With proper soft corn torillas, or course)

I can probably dedeuce where this came from. I have been living in Japan for some time and down in Okinawa spam is a fav. Now that Hawaii business is mostly Japanese and it’s warm there, the menu moved there.
I’ve done spam for about 20 years in more ways than you could ever imagine it could be served…

That was interesting. I think I ate spam once as a kid – not really my thing, but it wasn’t too bad. I think we ate it fried – for breakfast instead of sausage.
One thing I’m wondering about is how your embedded ads work – the text “white rice” in the post above links to as Media Com high speed internet deal. Thats some geeky rice they got in Hawaii.

As for spam, I refuse to eat it anymore for one specific reason, no key. Spam used to have a key that you would put in a tab and unwind the top of spam. Now it is just a pull lid. It is not spam without the key.
As for Portuguese sausage, each restaurant makes it different. At the Liliha Bakery, very good Purtuguese sausage, other places not as much.
When I am there I try and avoid fast food and go to local places especially breakfast. I am normally a protein person but will make room for the sweet bread french toast and pancakes the size of your plate.
