I think you are equating "file sharing" with "theft" without demonstrating the equivalence between the two. Every reasonable person would agree that theft is morally wrong, whichever form it may take, but you have to show first that a certain activity can be unequivocally classified as theft before assigning it the immorality of theft.

The difference is that when you steal a DVD, you are stealing a tangible object that took money and resources to produce. When you pirate something off the internet, you are only stealing the resources of your own computer and the resources of those that supply the file.

Just because something is illegal doesnt make it immoral. When you download music, movies, or anything elce you are just saving information to your computer. You are not steeling anything, just duplicating it. I can go to the library right now and make copies of pages of books if I wanted to and no one would have a problem with that. Is it immoral for me to TIVO or DVR my favorite show or movie then fast forward through the ads? Or after I DVR a movie or show I can video edit out the ads altogether if I want. I believe it only becomes immoral if you try to sell these copies.

So you are saying it is illegal to go to your friends house and borrow one of their movies then take it home and watch? Its not illegal to share no matter how many friends you have. The only immoral action is making money from it.If people enjoy something they will go and buy it,thats been proven time and time again. In fact people who download songs and movies are more likely to buy them.

Of course a piece of software is to blame for society's ills! Just like guns are the reason for murder, Alcohol is the reason for alcoholism, cigarettes for cancer and automobiles for car crash deaths. People have no independent free will, they're compelled to use the tools around them to self-destruct. Down with free will! Legislate and litigate all the bad things away! I trust our government to make those choices for me.

But seriously, this article is just a hair away from pure pap and has been said before by so many that is does NOT bear repeating, nor will I bother to rebut it because the rebuttals are already all over the web and I suggest you read up on it.
