I'm looking at the netstat. It shows the IPs that the requests are coming from and their state at the time netstat was run. Most of these connections are in a “TIME_WAIT” status – that's what syn flood attacks do. 2882108 listen queue overflows.

Our Linux god, Tony Steidler-Dennison, is looking into this situation further. I believe he'll be keeping an eye on the server for me while I'm away this afternoon.
