Green Tea Reviews and Recommendations

I needed to know if green tea would help me on my Fatblasting quest. Turns out, green tea is great (according to the American Society for Clinical Nutrition). Color me impressed. I still believe green tea lacks flavor, but I also know that I haven't tried 99% of the green teas out there. I need recommendations - and I've already ordered about four green tea packages from Peet's (duh). Price is no object when it comes to this kind of beverage. Quality is paramount! If green tea is going to become my daily staple, I want it to be good. None of this “tea in a pill” crap. Quite frankly, I'm about done with tea bags as well. Any other green tea drinkers out there? I raise my cup to you.

I prefer black tea, myself - especially Darjeeling (don't really care for coffee). Have you tried The Republic of Tea yet? They have an excellent selection of high-end gourmet teas, including green.

I highly recommend Mighty Leaf teas. Good Canadian tea, but their website says there are a number of Seattle locations that carry it.
As for green teas, my personal favourite is a Jasmine Green tea - but it's mostly a matter of experimentation until you find the one that “speaks” to you.

Japanese “Sencha” i think it is spelled is the best green tea. The proper Japanese sencha leaves. Easily the best tasting. Ben Barren

I know you are sour on tea bags, but I really like TAZO's Green Tips variety. Also, I don't find I need it anymore, but I used to add a little Splenda which helped the taste a lot.

I prefer Stash Tea's chai green tea. It's spiked with ginger, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and clove. Tasty stuff.

Chris, I highly recommend the Green Teas from Adagio. They have a “starter set” that Kevin Rose initially recommended. I got a set for Christmas and absolutely love the tea…

Green tea can be purchased in either bags or leaves form.
Leaves is definitely better.

My favorite would be the genmai cha and the citron green.
I have no affiliations with the web site.
It was recommended on Leo Laporte Call For Help TV show or the the GTech channel.

I prefer white tea, but not just any white tea. Look up Andrew Lessman on the Home Shopping Network. Look for Silver Secret. It doesn't have a full robust flavor but is better for the health than any tea. Tastes tons better than green tea. I used to drink green tea and never found one I liked.

You really need to go to Pekoe Global Teahouse at 1509 Western Ave. It's just below the Pike Place Market. It's inside a spice store called World Merchants. It's an old world spice and tea shop, not a place where old lady’s come to have tea. The owner travels to China and India several times a year to buy all his teas as well as many of the spices. He is extremely knowledgeable. When I go, I sometimes spend an hour or more talking to him, and trying several of the teas he recommends. There is a ton to learn from him. How long each tea should be steeped. Many benefit from multiple brewings (something I always thought was a no-no).

Hey Chris. If you're looking to make single cups of tea using loose leaves, then you might want to check out the teastick…

It's pretty nifty, and lets you make great cups of tea using loose leaves without having to make a whole pot.

Stash teas are wonderful & you can order online.

If you find green tea lacking in flavor, check out some of the flavored green tea blends. My current favorite is Fiji, a green tea with pineapple and papaya. You can read a review on my blog.

I keep green tea in bags from any of the major supplies in the pantry most of the time, but the best is loose leaf that I get from a Chinese grocery store in town (and we only have 1 here, not really all that diverse). The brand is SHAN WAI SHAN TEA and the product name is YINHAO GREEN TEA. It comes in a green tin with mostly Chinese writting on it. If you're interested, I can take a few pictures of the tin so you can compare it to what's in your market.

I like Sencha and Genmai Cha a lot, but my standard green tea is Republic of Tea's Sky Between the Branches. I buy it by the pound and use a tea infuser. The trick is to wait until the hot water is not quite so boiling hot, as that changes the flavor of the tea. You have to experiment to find the temperature that works best for you.
Ray Kurzweil drinks 12 cups of green tea a day as part of his life extension program. I'm only at 6 or 8 (but then, I try not to count!), but I use BIG CUPS ;)

Tea is a personal thing like anything else…For quick and travel friendly teas, I have tried many and prefer Ceylon Teas Chinese Green Tea ( http://www.ceylonteas.com/ceytea.htm ). The tea is sealed in plastic as opposed to paper, where most teas loose their flavor. I usually carry a few bags with me when I travel, next time in Seattle/Redmond area I can drop some off…
Amazon sells it here:

While shopping for clothes for my kids I found Marshalls had it for $2.99 a box of 100.
If you are into loose leaf teas the Adagio.com set is good start, if you are into Coffee Presses(the only true way to brew coffee according to my wife) this is a great addition to getting the best flavor at home.

No specific brand recommendation, but I prefer jasmine-flavoured green teas.

Try some Yerba Mate Royal. It's not green tea, but it is the best tasting tea I've encountered yet. (I think that's mostly because of the Stevia in it.)

I drink some hot tea, some iced tea, and a LOT of coffee. Considering that coffee and tea are two of the most heavily sprayed crops in the world (pesticides), I would recommend that any coffee or tea you buy be organic. The Sam's Club where I live sells organic whole bean coffee, and I can usually find organic tea at Kroger or the local farmer's market.

The newest tea boutique in Westchester New York in going online. We carry fine loose leaf teas and the quality is much better than the tea bags or the sachets. We have all of the accessories you need to brew the tea. We have a great variety of chinese and japanese green teas, oolongs, white teas, black teas, herbals, oolongs and flower teas. Our selection and quality is unbeatable and the health benefits of pure tea are well known.

I find that the bigger the leaf the better, like Revolution Tea. Maybe it just comes from my hippy days, heheh… But Revolution Tea has one of the finest blends my tounge has ever tasted!

Personally…i hate the taste of green tea…but i still drink because it is really good for you…i add some lemon and berry juice but it still tastes awful…is there ne way to make it taste any better……..

Horrible tasting green tea? Only if you buy poor quality. Buy gourmet quality leaf tea, or try oolong or jasmine. And don’t leave it to steep for more than 2-3 minutes.

The Best tea I have found is Ti Kuan Yin. I am not a coffee drinker but I have a wide selections of teas.

Best tasting and easiest to prepare Green Tea is made by pure inventions. Comes in a small bottle with a dropper. Each dropper full makes a glass of great tasting tea that is highly concentrated in polyphenols, equivalent to drinking 7 cups.

I’ve tried a few of their teas and haven’t been disappointed yet… except for the shipping charges, but if I were to buy $50 worth of merchandise the shipping is supposed to be free.
some of my favorites are their Lapsang Souchong, Easter Parade, and All Hallow’s Eve teas.
Those store bought bagged teas are absolute garbage… I’d rather stick to the quality stuff.
