Google YouTube Ads

http://live.pirillo.com/ - For quite awhile, I have embedded sponsor ads into my videos, as well as mentioning them. Today, YouTube will begin their new program, where you can embed any Partner video into your own site, and make money!

According to the NewYork Times:

The Internet search giant is expected to introduce a service on Tuesday to allow Web sites in its ad network to embed relevant videos from some YouTube content creators. A Web site or blog specializing in hiking, for instance, might choose to embed hiking videos from YouTube.

Google will share ad revenue with the video content creators. The program is in its earliest stages and only 100 companies are set to offer their video as part of the program. Given the millions of videos on YouTube, that figure is likely to change soon. The service, which represents the first major combination of a Google product with YouTube, will give video creators wide distribution beyond YouTube via Google’s network, known as AdSense. Since the videos will be surrounded by ads, the service is another way for Google to cash in on the huge number of video clips stored on YouTube.

Google said it would share revenue from the ads with the creators of the videos and with the Web sites that embed them, though it declined to specify what percentage of the revenue will be kept by each party.

While many Web sites already embed YouTube clips in their pages, this system would allow them to make money from the clips. They would not, however, have the same level of control over what clip gets embedded.

I don’t see how this cannot be a “win-win” situation for everyone involved. YouTube will make money, I’ll make money… and YOU will make money. What’s negative about that? Yes, you may not like ads. But seriously, how can you not like making money simply by embedding videos?

For forums that can embed video, its not a win-win situation.

You cannot control the video shown and you cannot have more than 1 video per page.

I will stick with the current setup of any youtube video i want and as many as i want and not have to share revenue with a 3rd party I generate from advertising.

Have watched your web stream for about 6 months. Enjoy the show very much. I’m not truly bugged by the small adds at the bottom of your stream. Also, I don’t begrudge people like yourselves making cash out of what they do. I guess this kinda thing was inevitable with the take over of Youtube by Google. TV has adverts, so why shouldnt we expect the likes of Youtube to do so also.

On the flip side adverts can be annoying. For example, when watching your live stream the adds make it difficult to read the chat dialog. Also, how much control do we want to give to the likes of Google as to what we see by way of ads. I find Google mail a prime example in this regard. Targeted advertising based on the content of our emails being read….Do we just accept this as part of the package (and yes it’s a great one) or change provider? I dunno.

I thought you made a good point on your stream about finding a reputable pc repair guy….you said that you wouldn’t sell a certain brand of pc in a store you worked for (HP I think) and that sometimes you cared too much and that got you in trouble with
your employers. Should we accept a pc just because a company has a monopoly? No way!! The point is, some find the level of control and the leverage that Google have pretty repugnant. Should we do something just because it makes us a buck or two?

Again, who am I to Judge?

I find it interesting that the majority of so called sponsored V-Blogs/Streams that feature ads and recommendations, rarely feature open source software or charitable causes. Whereas will readily promote something like the xbox or a new game.

Well, money makes the world go round and Google makes the web go round. Maybe we just have to accept it.

I saw this coming a long time ago; development of a dynamic revshare platform is quite a huge application and I am blown away they are ready to launch. I have been working on a similar solution for online communities and blogs, I am pretty excited to see this thing in action!
