I just migrated everything to a new gmail account so I ran into the same issue. Quickest fix was to download google talk and use the "+Add" button to add all my @gmail.com contacts to the list. It took about 5 minutes to add 70 contacts and within about 30 seconds after that people started showing up online (as they accepted the invitation). I do think a solution would be if you're desperate to add your gtalk to contacts back would be to export your google contacts again as CSV fle, and save a copy as a back up. Open the non back up copy of your contacts, filter it such that all contacts ending in @google.com are no longer their, then delete those contacts not ending in @google.com. Go to your google contacts delete all of those contacts. Then upload the .csv file with your contacts who have an @google.com, then add all of them to gtalk using the invite contacts function. Then merge the back up copy of your contacts to your gmail contacts. I think this would work but it would also fall under the category of jumping through hoops I am having the same problem right now actually.
