Google Talk: Bad Name

Yes, the world is still abuzz about Google Talk (myself included, sadly). It's the best desktop VoIP I've ever used, and will become a regular staple on our show. However, the name sucks – seriously. The UI needs help, too (but it all starts with a good, natural name). Instead of complaining for the sake of complaining, I'm going to offer up a list of alternatives for Google Talk, although I can't necessarily take credit for all of 'em:

  • Gtalk
  • Gabber
  • Gargle
  • Gooble
  • Gimble
  • Garthok
  • Giblet
  • Ginkgo
  • Gabble
  • Gimli

Personally, I think Gtalk rolls off the tongue – and I'm likely to call it that anyway, largely because they pounded the “Gmail” branding into my head, and that service is already deeply integrated into the product. So, they might as well call it Gtalk and get it over with.

Optimize 3.0 is an excellent tool to have in your arsenal. Use it to clean up your computer, free up space by removing junk files, and to generally speed up your computer. You spend a lot of time using your machine... don't you want it to run at its optimum speed and efficiency?

the last thing I should ever do is interact with a telemarketer – but I can’t help myself anymore. Hi Chris !
I agree that while GTalk rolls off the tongue the easiest, it's also already being used….
Gtalk is a multi-line teleconferencing package written by David W. Jeske and Daniel L. Marks.

What about calling it “Gibberish”?
How can there be no Mac version?

How is it the best Voip solution? It doesn't have the features of Skype or Gizmo, and doesn't support mac. Are you getting paid by Goggle?

I dunno, giblet works for me, but GTalk will have to do.
But I agree, how can google not go without having a mac version, or even a linux version would be nice too.

“Gtalk” makes the most sense, but I also like “Gobble.” :)
