Gnomedex 3.0
I'd tell you to keep this bit of news on the down-low, but… I'm pretty sure it's going to be gospel truth in a matter of days. Gnomedex 3.0 is most likely happening in Des Moines, Iowa on the weekend of July 26th, 2003. This is my 30th birthday, and I can't think of a better way to celebrate it. Our venue hasn't been finalized, but I've had enough of you asking me for more information that I thought it'd be worthwhile to post this teaser. Although, I suppose I just let the cat out of the bag? Keep your eye on this space for details as they emerge. I don't know much else at this point, so don't ask. We're actively seeking sponsors / partners, though. UPDATE: what kind of band(s) would you like to hear this year?

Hmm, at least itÂ’s scheduled before college football season starts this year. I donÂ’t think you fully appreciate how traumatic it can be to miss the first weekend of college football, I had to see a therapist and take Valium for 2 weeks because of it last year.

Well this would put a kink in my plan but nothing I can't work around. Maybe I'll just go to Des Moines first and then head out to San Francisco for the month of August. no biggie. I can't wait for GD 3.0, it's going to be awesome.

A few friends and I are thinking about a road trip from Boston to Gnomedex III. If you live somewhere along the way (more or less) or you can get to Boston by July 21st … let me know if you'd like to join us. We're not entirely sure what the auto will be. We've considered everything from our car (seats four), renting an RV or renting the Dodge Sprinter (a huge van that you can stand in!). And of course, whatever we drive in will be wired with Internet access and at least one computer so we can write about our adventures along the way.

This “teaser” makes my day. I can make Des Moines with absolutely no problems. My wife will also be stoked! Although, when the SF rumors were floating about, I was planning on being there come hell or high water.

How about some of the bands you saw recently like Bleu or Moxy Fruvous? I thought they were good. As cool as it would be to get BNL I don't know if that's a possibility. I'll shut up now…

BNL… wow… now THAT would be amazing. However, impossible.
I don't know how to comment on the music because I actually liked The Flying Marsupials, which is a different opinion of most who went to GD2. I think we should have a band that plays some good old tunes, but play a lot of new ones. I asked around a little bit at GD2 and it seemed people were upset because they wanted to hear newer music.

Count me in, Chris. Oh, and bring Endochine (endochine.com) or maybe Sum 41, or possibly Guster. Those'd work.

Why not skip the band and have everyone go to the hotel bar to dance/socialize? Last year, the Thursday night mixer/mingler in the bar as registration was happening was really good. I think it would be good to have a similar closing mixer, since all people really want to do is hang out with their new friends anyway.
(Kirk and Chris add: “The band has been the most poorly attended part in the last two years. You will never be able to satisfy everyone's taste with one band. Save the money and have a party!”)
