Getting New Glasses
Right now, my face is so close to the LCD screen, I can see blues and reds of the sub-pixel font rendering. Why would I be doing such a thing? No, I’m not testing the boundaries of ClearType – I just had my eyes dialated at a long-overdue optometrist appointment. It’s time to get new glasses!
Ponzi has yet to master the art of subtlety, having handed me a “Market Optical” gift certificate for my birthday a few weeks ago. That’s her way of saying I need to update my look to help her avoid further social embarassment. She had done her homework, too – selecting a style-heavy outlet through which I might find new specs.
I flipped on a thick, black rim frame as soon as I saw it – but the covered up my eyebrows (which is a bad thing, apparently). I’ve always been most comfortable in mid-sized, rounded frames – but few of those were to be found on the shelves. It didn’t take too long to find the perfect fit. You’ll see it for first time when I get them in another week or so.

Windows Safari fonts looking fuzzy. Duncan Riley: Yes it’s quick, but it doesn’t support Aero in Vista. And then there is the font rendering. Gotta keep on top of eye exams, have mine checked every year. I’m due for new lenses. I tend to like Brooks brothers frames myself (I’m a conservative guy or traditional if you will with clothing) also a big fan of zeiss lenses and frames. Best of luck!

It’s time for LASIK. I had my eyes lasered in 2001 after a lifetime of glasses and contacts. It’s the best money I’ve ever spent and I still have better than 20/20 vision 5+ years later.

I love getting new glasses. I wish I could afford them more often, but my vision is so lousy I can’t afford to go cheap.

A week or so? For glasses? No way!
What ever happened to 1 hour opticians? I get mine from glassesdirect.co.uk ‘cos I’m cheap but most places here in the UK will do you glasses while you wait.
Im suprised that you have to wait so long for them.

Keith is right – check out LASIK! I had my eyes fixed 3 years ago, after 20 years of wearing glasses and contact lenses. Really, it’s stupid to wait.

I’m part of the LASIK train, too. I had horrible vision (seriously, I couldn’t see the big “E” on the eye chart…you know, the HUGE one that takes up the whole screen). At one point during my teen years I was told my vision in my really bad eye was 20/800. Oy.
Anyway, I got LASIK two and a half years ago and I’ve been 20/15 ever since. It changed my life…although my stomach still gets weak when I think about “cornea flaps”.
