Get a Free Xbox Live Game
Just got this email a few minutes ago…
Dear Xbox LIVE Members:
During this past holiday season you helped us break a number of Xbox LIVE records. This included our largest sign-up of new members to Xbox LIVE in our 5 year history and just yesterday you broke the record for the single biggest day of concurrent members ever on the service.
As a result of this massive increase in usage we know that some of you experienced intermittent Xbox LIVE issues over the holiday break. While the service was not completely offline at any given time, we are disappointed in our performance. I would like to take this moment to thank you each and every one of you for your patience and understanding as our team has worked around the clock to return the service to a stable state.
At the same time we would like to offer a token of our appreciation to all of you in celebration of record success for the service. And as a thank you for your loyalty during this holiday period, we will be offering all of our Xbox LIVE members around the world access to a full Xbox LIVE Arcade game that will be available to download free of charge. In the coming weeks we will be sharing the specific details of this offer with you.
Thank you again for helping make Xbox LIVE everything that it is today!
Sincerely,
Marc Whitten
General Manager, Xbox LIVE

That is so cool. Unluckily I haven’t redeemed my subscription for Xbox Live since around November of 2006 probably since my Xbox 360 is starting to collect some dust since I’m not really enjoying it that much. But this is really cool. If I still did have service I would probably get Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Arcade Game because I enjoyed playing the demo I downloaded back when I had gold membership and my older brother loved playing that game when he was a kid in the 80s so I would most likely get that. Well thanks for blogging this and informing us on this.

For some reason your blog deleted my last comment. I spent some time on it and don’t really understand why it would do that. But anyways I’ll just put in the end of it. I think this is a great idea by microsoft and and I would probably spend it on TMNT the arcade game. I’m just wondering why this would happen.

I one am a Xbox Live gold member and have been since the start of Xbox and Live. I am glad to see MS/Xbox stepping up and doing something for their subscribers although I didnt think they would do anything but apologize. I have called Live support as well as my g/f in the recent week and received nothing but grief and attitude. Seems as if they treat most people that call like a kid that knows nothing about Xbox Live or they way it should be hooked up. I one was very dissapointed I couldnt play my new ROCKBAND over the holiday. Although it was hit and miss it was certainly frustrating. Thanks MS for stepping up.

Interesting that they think a free game will solve their problems. Better than ignoring the problems, but they should fix them regardless…

The game received will be fully at their discretion, I’m positive that the game will not be a top notch game you will play for hours, for this would be too nice of this corporation. The fact that their servers could not handle a new influx of subscribers is retarded. They are Microsoft, one of the most powerful company’s in the word. Must we enlist the help of GOD to get them to accomplish anything? There was a similar problem of supply and demand when the 360 was launched. The stores received less 360’s than they were told to preorder. Microsoft needs to get its **** together.

Great to find out the actual details of the free game after the offer expired. I have been checking my live account every couple of days to see what it will be. M$ did an effective job of obscuring the details long enough to limit the number of downloads. I had to search the Net to find out what it was, after the fact.
Bummer, because I thought M$ was stepping up to the plate and making an effort to be good to their users. My mistake.
