Free Internet Hard Drive from Microsoft
Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed
You can never have enough storage space for files. What if I told you that you can get another 1GB of storage… absolutely free?
If you have a Windows Live id, you can sign up for the new SkyDrive from Microsoft. This Internet-based storage solution is free, and very easy to use. Simply sign up using your Windows Live id, and start uploading files.
Once your files are uploaded, you can access them securely using either Internet Explorer or Firefox. You can also choose to share your files with friends and associates. There are two levels of “outsider” access: reader and editor. The names are self explanatory. A reader is allowed access to read your files once you give them the login information. An editor has access to read and manipulate or change the files. They can be shared across the country… or across the world. When you sign in to Windows Live SkyDrive, you’re in charge. For each folder you create, you choose who has access to it. Add new folders, rename them, or change who has access at any time. So you can share some folders… but not others!

I recommend Humyo. Humyo is a free internet hard drive with unlimited storage. Store any file, any size, for free. What beats that?

Awesome. 1GB isn’t a lot. But it kicks the **** out of Indexing of a 1Gig flash drive that’s like 950 MB.

Why would I want 1gb from Microsoft when I just unwrapped and plugged in a 1tb Western Digital My World NAS that also comes complete with over-the-internet sharing in addition to its home network capabilities :-)

I can already see stories about idiots with pirate versions of windows logging in to that SkyDrive thingie and later being arrested & charged some insane amount of money, not only for pirate version of windows, but also for all the gigabytes of music & films stored on HDD, some of which they tried to “share” with friends or whatever :D

@ ikun12 - yes, http://www.humyo.com is a great service, with fantastic streaming capabilities and unlimited storage, but you can only download a single file at a time. This means if you want to share albums etc you have to archive them first into a single file, or you’ll spend all day right clicking each song to download them…
I’d rather trust a third party start up with my data than M$ anyway…

I use AOL Xdrive and I get 5 GB’s free, but online HDD’s are a pain, because they take so long. That’s why I use an external HDD.

Unless something has recently changed with Media Max, the catch is you can’t access any files over 10MB.

The no accounts in Canada really sucks for me, but I still think WHFF (Will Host For Food [www.willhostforfood.com]) is better. You get a free account, and unlimited storage, up to 500MB per file, and is entirely free! No php, asp, or bat files allowed, though.
