When you resize a small image to make it larger, it tends to run the color together, and makes the edges jaggy or blurry. By turning a photo into Vector art, you get rid of those little imperfections.

If you want to clean up your image, make the lines clearer and colors cleaner when resizing it, you definitely want to use VectorMagic. This website and service is absolutely free, which amazes me. It’s easy to use, and the results are astounding.

Upload your image, and watch the tool detect what type of image it is. In my case, it detected my logo as a logo with blending. If I wanted to, I could change that to a logo without blending, a regular photo, whatever the case may be. It then asks what the quality (NOT the resolution) is of the picture. Analyzing begins, and it will stop to ask what color palette you want to use. Once analyzing is done… you can see the results. It’s amazing to see the difference between the original stretched image on the left, and the new cleaned up version on the right. That’s Vectorization, baby!

What is Vectorization, you ask? Vectorization (aka tracing) is the process of converting a raster image to a vector image. Raster images are pixel-based, whereas vector images are represented by geometric shapes such as lines, circles and curves.

Any time you come across a site like this, please let me know so I can help spread the word. I love finding places like this. This site is definitely something I’ve needed for a long time.

Chris is wrong on this. What hes looking at is a raster image, raster is images made of pixels. Vector is a mathematical equation for an image. You would NEVER EVER use a photo in vector. The file size for a vector PHOT would be monsterous and would not be as crisp and smooth as a high res photo. Logos and type are done in vector, photos and graphics with large amounts of gradients, texture and color are done in raster.

Damn that’s really useful!

And like clockwork, the site is “down for maintenance.” I’m looking forward to using it though, thanks!

The web is a collection of websites linked together by hyperlinks. Yes, anyone can write to it.

It’s the Stanford logo.

so can you write it here plz?the link?

It’s the Stanford logo.

Heh. “Where the dog sits in his seats.”

This, I suspect, is only handy for a quick logo or image with simple lines and shading. When you get into higher detail, I don’t know how useful it gets. Even with one of the example transformed pictures there’s some wonkiness in the lines. It’s still a handy program though.

I just tried this and I got to say it’s freeking amazing. I’m used to usig Corel Trace and most recently the live trace feature in Illustrator. But this just completly blows them out of the water. Great fidelity without having to do a ton of tweaking. Must have.

Very cool, seems like the web is the place to be for applications now. I gave this one a try and thought it was quite good

When I tried it gave me:
In order to use VectorMagic you must have Adobe/Macromedia flash installed. You can download flash here.

Just what I need. More bloatware.

I am kinda new to this so I was hoping someone could help me. Once I download my newly vectorized image, how do I resize it without losing image quality? I tried using the “Image Size” option in Photoshop, but my vectorized image still loses quality if I enlarge it. Please help.

hey chris just wondering how do you get the lil banner above the details??

what u cant save as a pivture format

OMG.. i’m speechless.. awesome tip!!

Yeah it’s not free, you have to pay $ 4.95/month to download the vectorized results.

I think, this soft is not better than CorelDRAW’s trace.

Are you ******* kidding me?
