When it comes to close friends and family it may be hard to charge them money. When you offer up your help, mention "Of course I can't take money from you, You're family (or friend). Heck, if you're grateful for my help, you can toss a gift card my direction for some groceries or gas." This will make it seem less like you're 'charging' them and more like you're exchanging gifts.
