Fonud out my landlord isn't so trusty. Some guy was MIA/Avoiding him for some reason.. Landlord came to me and asked if I had seen him recently.. And I have.. told him yes.. he said he had trouble getting ahold of him. lol. so. he goes "in" his apt.. probably knowing full well they were gone. This is one reason to refit a computer. Security! agreed. Set up an old webcam to snap pictures on motion and save to hd, email.. then you have some proof to whats going on when you're not around. Last winter I had set something up with linux/ubuntu that captured images when it detected motion.. totally forgot about it cause well.. it doesn't take up cpu usage and is quiet. months later, i find GIGS worth of pictures on my HD. LOL. but this is perfect! and i know it works.

Yup, i’ve just recently come across a reason to refit an old pc. Some of these options are quite obvious of course, such as the files Server, Juke Box, and a computer for Kids or grandparents. One of the suggestions I haven't seen before, was using an old computer as a security system, I mean I've seen it done, I just never thought using an old PC of mines for it.
one of the things I thought of using an old computer for, is since everybody in the house has a PC of their own at this point, but there is no central family PC, I have thought of setting up a small HP in the kitchen for the purpose of my Mom storing/searching recipes possibly.
Anyway, great article.

I use my old Win98 computer for a server, but once my ISP gets on me I will probably use it as a jukebox.

Awesome list dude ;)<br
